This retrospective analysis evaluates how implementing inclusive research practices affected the demographic diversity of the MyTACTIC trial population. Adult patients with advanced solid tumors were recruited from academic centers and community cancer clinics, with race/ethnicity summarized by site catchment areas. Results show 252 enrollees (83% White), widespread community clinic screening, and small gains via streamlined protocol and free transport, but overall community-only presence was insufficient to increase diversity.","FUTURE ONCOLOGY
2026, VOL. 22, NO. 1, 59–69
[https://doi.org/10.1080/14796694.2025.2595690](https://doi.org/10.1080/14796694.2025.2595690)
| RESEARCH ARTICLE
Impact of community recruitment and inclusion initiatives on enrollment in the biomarker-driven MyTACTIC trial
Richard M. This retrospective analysis presents the impact of implementing inclusive research practices on the diversity of the MyTACTIC trial population.
Patients & methods: Adult patients with advanced solid tumors were enrolled from large academic centers or community cancer clinics and a number of inclusive research practices were implemented to diversify patient recruitment. We summarized race/ethnicity data of the study population related to the sites’ catchment area.
Results: Overall, 252 patients were enrolled (83% White) . Community clinics represented 95% of screening sites (enrolled 249/252 patients) . The proportion of patients from racial/ethnic minorities was generally higher in study centers from ethnically diverse catchment areas. Streamlining the protocol and implementing a free transport scheme to improve patient recruitment yielded positive feedback from site staff; 14 patients (5.5%) used the transportation service.
Conclusion: Findings from the MyTACTIC trial suggest that running trials at community oncology sites does not, by itself, increase patient diversity; other efforts are also necessary. Introduction
Over 80% of patients with cancer in the United States are treated within the community setting [1], but rates of clinical trial enrollment within such settings are significantly lower than those in academic centers [2] . As suggested by Mohan et al., increasing clinical trial recruitment at community centers may facilitate the involvement of patients from underserved, minority groups who otherwise may not be able to participate [3] . In addition, global trials that are the basis for U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drug filings include mostly patients from outside the USA [4] . In light of this, the FDA has provided new guidance to ensure trials include more patients from the USA and from ethnic minorities, thus more accurately representing the population that will be eligible for treatment if the treatment regimen is approved [5,6] .
Racial and ethnic disparities within clinical research are a barrier to healthcare equity [7,8]. Minority groups, according to race or ethnicity, are less likely to enroll in cancer-related clinical trials than White/Caucasian people [9–11]. Furthermore, in recent years there has been a downward trend in the participation of people of African American and Hispanic race in clinical trials [10]. This is despite the 1993 National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act, which legislated for increased representation of minorities in | clinical trials in the United States [10, 12]. Such disparities in recruitment may be borne out of individual patient factors, such as cultural or religious beliefs, language barriers, fear or mistrust of healthcare professionals, or socioeconomic considerations [3, 10, 13], underlying prejudices or unconscious bias","cbCain0Cy9PwRMNx","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCain0Cy9PwRMNx","pdf",1770035,3,11,"English","en",105,"# Abstract
## Aims
## Patients & methods
## Results
## Conclusion
# 1.
