Insurance \n• Legislative Representation Services. \nWho is required to have a CDL? \nClass A CDL – any combination vehicle more than 26,000 lbs, with more than 10,000lbs in tow \nThe weight is calculated by adding the vin tag GVWR of the truck and trailer together – not plates \n• Pickup truck with a 20,000lbs gooseneck trailer or more \n• Dump truck with a 14,000lbs trailer or more \n• Semi tractor with any trailer combination over 10,000lbs \nClass B CDL license – any single vehicle over 26,000lbs \nDRIVERS LICENSES in ILLINOIS \nYOU MUST HAVE THE PROPER CLASS OF LICENSE TO OPERATE THE WIEGHT OF THE VEHICLE. \n• Class A – CDL, non-CDL, J50 or J51 \n• Any combination vehicle over 26,001lbs with more than 10,000lbs in tow \n• Class B – CDL, non-CDL \n• Any single or combination vehicle power unit over 26,001lbs but less than 10,000lbs in tow \n• Class C \n• Any power unit over 16,001lbs but less than 26,0001 . There is no air barke endorsement in Class C. \n• Class D \n• Any power unit up to 16,0001lbs \nCDL Classifications \nCDL Drivers must classify their CDL as one of four different \ntypes. \nThis applies to all class A and B CDL’s. \n• Non-Exempt Interstate (NI) \n• Classification is the classic CDL that allows a driver to travel across state lines and haul interstate. \n• It will require the driver to have his DOT Physical. \n• Driver must keep it current on file at the SOS \n• Excepted Interstate (EI) \n• Classification allows a driver to haul interstate but is exempted from having a DOT Physical. \n• Can apply to most government employees \n• Non-excepted Interstate –(NA)– \n• Classification can only operate intrastate Must follow state laws. For nongovernment employees they must carry a DOT physical with their person. \n• Can apply to most government employees \n• Excepted intrastate (EA)– \n• This is for government employees \nFMCSA Entry Level Driver Training \n• Started on Feb. 7, 2022 \n• Requires all new CDL drivers to complete a driver training program prior to testing for a CDL \n• All drivers upgrading a CDL will also be required to complete training prior to testing at SOS (B to A, hazmat, school bus or passenger) \n• All other endorsements (tanker, air brakes, etc.) and temporary restricted Class B (fertilizer employee anhydrous tank driver) licenses are not affected by the ELDT mandate. \n• Drivers who previously possessed a CDL, if can provide proof are exempt from ELDT \n(ELDT)– Common Misunderstanding \n• drivers can still take the CDLA or B, school bus, or passenger knowledge test at the DMV BEFORE enrolling with a registered training provider \n• Individuals can still receive his or her Commercial Learners Permit (CLP), which is valid for one year BEFORE they complete theory and behind-the-wheel training from a registered training provider. \n• All state DMV’s are only required to check the registry prior to the driver performing the skills or road testing for a Class A & BCDL, School Bus and Passenger endorsements. \n(ELDT)– Written Test and Hazmat \n• FMCSA fumbled horribly by not educating the industry that this crucial step can be a part of the process. \n• it is beneficial knowing the individual has the capacity to achieve a valid CLP before investing time and resources in training \n• Hazardous material endorsement applicants are treated differently \n• Drivers must complete the theory training from a Registered Training Provider (RTP) pr","cbCaikDB9smiq7mR","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikDB9smiq7mR","pdf",484710,15,"English","# ELDT session overview\n## Who is Mid-West Truckers Association\n## CDL and Illinois driver licensing requirements\n## FMCSA ELDT requirements and exemptions\n## ELDT common misunderstandings\n## ELDT written test and hazmat process\n## Options to comply with ELDT","[{\"question\":\"Which CDL classes and vehicle weights trigger CDL licensing in Illinois?\",\"answer\":\"The briefing explains Class A for any combination vehicle over 26,000 lbs with more than 10,000 lbs in tow, and Class B for any single vehicle over 26,000 lbs.
