This study tested whether human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) can alleviate IBS-D symptoms using an IBS-D rat model. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated to control, model, and three hUC-MSC dose groups. hUC-MSCs improved body weight, fecal water content, inflammatory factor expression, intestinal barrier protein levels, and gut microbiota abundance and diversity.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/","Healthcare",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/human-umbilical-cord-mesenchymal-stem-cells-alleviated-diarrhea-type-irritable-bowel-syndrome-by-improving-intestinal-function/406868/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/human-umbilical-cord-mesenchymal-stem-cells-alleviated-diarrhea-type-irritable-bowel-syndrome-by-improving-intestinal-function/406868.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Guten The condition is persistent and significantly affects the quality of life of patients. In China, 5.6%-11.5% of the population has IBS, with diarrheal IBS (IBS-D) comprising about 31.5% of the total. \nAIM \nTo investigate how human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) can alleviate the symptoms with the help of an IBS-D rat model. \nMETHODS \nSixty specific pathogen-free-grade male Sprague-Dawley rats were acquired and divided into five groups: Control group, model group, and three hUC-MSC groups with different doses. The model group was induced using a combination of acetic acid and binding stress. We determined the body weight of the mice; analyzed their fecal characteristics, inflammatory factors, and intestinal tissue damage; and conducted intestinal flora analyses. \n WJSC [https://www.wjgnet.com](https://www.wjgnet.com) 1 December 26, 2025 Volume 17 Issue 12 \nZhang HM et al. hUC-MSCs treat diarrhea-type IBS \nRESULTS \nThe results showed that hUC-MSCs observably restored the dramatic weight loss in the rat model and also lowered the fecal water content to some extent. In addition, hUC-MSCs reduced the expression of inflammatory factors to alleviate the inflammatory response and increased the expression of intestinal barrier functional proteins to restore the colon injury by colonizing the colon tissue. In addition, hUC-MSCs were able to maintain the abundance and diversity of gut flora. \nCONCLUSION \nThus, hUC-MSCs can reduce the expression of inflammatory factors, improve the expression of intestinal barrier functional proteins, and maintain the abundance and diversity ","cbCairJsWikfLOmf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairJsWikfLOmf","pdf",48513145,21,"English","# Background\n## Aim\n## Methods\n## Results\n## Conclusion\n## Key Words","[{\"question\":\"What condition does the study address?\",\"answer\":\"The study addresses diarrhea-type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), a chronic functional digestive disorder associated with recurrent abdominal pain and irregular stools.\"},{\"question\":\"How were the hUC-MSCs evaluated?\",\"answer\":\"hUC-MSCs were evaluated in an IBS-D rat model using sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into control, model, and three treatment groups with different doses.\"},{\"question\":\"What outcomes did hUC-MSCs improve in the rat model?\",\"answer\":\"hUC-MSCs restored weight loss, reduced fecal water content, lowered inflammatory factor expression, increased intestinal barrier functional protein expression, supported colon injury recovery, and maintained gut flora abundance and diversity.\"}]","Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells alleviated diarrhea-type irritable bowel syndrome by improving intestinal function | PDF",1790568554,53]
