Using multiple factors along with ACCUPLACER assessments provides a more meaningful placement decision. \nThis document outlines how to use College Board-developed multiple factor tools and resources to design your placement program, and detailed information on how to set up your multiple factors’placement settings for the additive and/or decision tree approaches within the ACCUPLACER platform. \nDepending on which approach(es) you intend to use, you may not need to use all the steps below. Before using this document, please review College Board’s published white paper, Multiple Factors in College Placement Decisions for additional information on . \nDetermine Which Multiple Factors Approach to Use \nThe first step in designing your placement program using multiple factors is to decide which factors you want to use and how you want to use them. This will help define which approach best meets your placement policy’s desired outcomes. ACCUPLACER platform functionality supports two methods 1) Additive Approach and 2) Decision Tree Approach. The Additive Approach allows an institution to combine two or more academic factors in a compensatory manner. The Decision Tree Approach allows an institution to use combinations of composite scores, academic factors, non-academic factors, and responses to background questions. \nCreating Composite Scores with the Additive Approach \nAs discussed in the white paper, the Additive Approach allows you to combine two or more academic measures into a single composite score, where separate weights can be given to each of the measures. For example, your placement policy may want to consider 30% of a student’s ACCUPLACER NextGeneration Writing Placement test score, 30% of a student’s SAT Reading test score and 40% of a student’s WritePlacer® essay test score as part of an integrated composite score. \nThe following academic measures are available within ACCUPLACER to consider when using the Additive \nApproach: \n• SAT ERW \n• SAT math \n• SAT total \n• SAT essay \n• ACT math \n• ACT science \n• ACT English \n• ACT reading \n• ACT composite \n• ACT writing \n• PSAT/NMSQT reading score \n• PSAT/NMSQT math score \n• PSAT/NMSQT total score \n• PSAT 10 reading score \n• PSAT 10 math score \n• PSAT 10 total score \n• PreACT math score \n• PreACT science score \n• PreACT English score \n• PreACT reading score \n• PreACT composite score \n• Overall GPA (4.0 scale) \n• Overall GPA (5 .0 scale) \nUsing the Decision Tree Approach \nWhile the Additive Approach restricts the measures that can be used to create a composite score, you can use the same placement rule and background question features you are accustomed to within ACCUPLACER, in order to include non-academic factors in your placement decisions. The placement rule feature allows you to create conditional rules that result in an overall placement decision based not only on scores using academic measures, but also on non-academic factors obtained by administering background questions. \nIn addition, a new operator has been added to ACCUPLACER placement rule conditions to consider resulting scores that fall within a Conditional Standard Error of Measurement (CSEM) from the placement score. This range is referred to as “Decision Zone.” This zone reflects one CSEM below your placement score. \nFor example, if your placement rule uses a placement score of 255 on the Next-Generation Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics (QAS) Placement test, the “Decision Zone” will also include student scores within one CSEM below that placement score. The illustration below shows what this would like if the CSEM for your placement score is 5. The Decision Zone includes scores from 250 to 254. This decision zone can be used in concert with other factors to ","cbCairVCGKLkjVhR","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairVCGKLkjVhR","pdf",448698,"English","# Determine Which Multiple Factors Approach to Use\n# Creating Composite Scores with the Additive Approach\n# Using the Decision Tree Approach\n## Decision Zone\n# How to Create a Composite Score","[{\"question\":\"What are the two multiple-factors approaches supported in the ACCUPLACER platform?\",\"answer\":\"The platform supports the Additive Approach and the Decision Tree Approach.
