He said,\"This, then, is how you should pray:  \n'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.' \"  \nMatthew 6:9-10 (NIV)  \nPrior to these verses, Jesus says that we are not to pray to be seen by others. But we should go to a place by ourselves. Jesus often went off alone to talk to his Father.  \nHe teaches us to come to God as a child would go to his father. We do not need to fear Him. We can trust him to hear us and care about what we are concerned about.  \nBut, we must remember that God is Holy. We must also come to Him with great respect and awe.  \nWhen we ask for God's kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, we are asking for life on this earth to be like that in heaven where God is the supreme ruler.  \nIn Heaven everyone does the will of the Father. Love and righteousness are the rule. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if everyone did what God desires?  \n\"Give us today our daily bread.\"  \nMatthew 6:11 (NIV)  \nThis prayer teaches us to ask for what we need for this day. We should not be anxious or overly concerned about the future. We must trust Him day by day.  \nSome teachers think the 'daily bread' refers to God's Word as well as physical food. We do need his Word every day.  \n\"Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.\"  \nMatthew 6:12 (NIV)  \nWhen we have sinned or offended God, we want His forgiveness. And, he is always ready to forgive when we ask. We should then be ready to forgive those who have done something to offend us.  \n\"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.\"  \nMatthew 6:14 (NIV)  \n\"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.\"  \nMatthew 6:13  \nThis could have two meanings. It may refer to being lured away from what God wants us todo.  \nJesus knew there are those who fear that they may fail.  \nOr, it may refer to sufferings or trials. 'Lead us not' or 'do not permit' us to suffer.
