Please delete these notes before printing  \nHow to Manage Bees  \nSection 1 Planning the work  \nVisit the hives often.  \nOnly do one thing on each visit.  \nHave a work plan that is relevant to the time of year.  \nExamples of work plans:  \n1. Clean around the hives and check that they have bees in them and are safe.  \n2. Inspect inside the hives:  \na. Check that the bees are building combs correctly (one combon one top bar);  \nb. Check that the queen is doing her work correctly;  \nc. Check if there are any leakages of water;  \nd. Check if there are intruders like ants, beetles or spiders;  \ne. Check if there are diseases harming the bees.  \n3. Harvest honey:  \na. Harvest only ripe honey;  \nb. Do not harvest brood (baby bee larvae);  \nc. Do not kill the bees;  \nd. Leave some honey in the hive as food for the bees.  \n4. After harvesting:  \na. Take out old, empty combs;  \nb. Rearrange the remaining combs so there are no gaps between combs;  \nc. Leave some honey for the bees;  \nd. Feed the bees if possible or necessary.  \n5. If the bees have left:  \na. Harvest all the combs to reclaim the wax;  \nb. Clean dirt and debris out of the hives;  \nc.
