In Sumagang, people could only get water when it rained. One of the groups living there was the Cimarron tribe. Apo Iraya lead the tribe. He had one son named Iraga.  \nThe people of the Cimarron tribe survied by farming and hunting wild animals. That was why the Cimarron men were always in the fields, keeping an eye on the crops and hunting wild boar.  \nIraga was the most diligent farmer in the tribe. He had the largest crop of banana, sweet potato, and cassava . The other tribe members always looked for Iraga’s crops when he brought in the harvest.  \nA long summer came and the rain stopped falling. As a result, people started moving out of Sumagang. Only the Cimarrons stayed behind. They believed that \u003Ci>Gugurang\u003C/i> would help them.  \nEvery day they held a feast and made offerings to Gugurang asking for rain. But somehow the weather got even hotter!  \n\u003Ci>Gugurang:\u003C/i> God  \n”If this continues, soon we will all be poor and hungry,” Apo Iraya said sadly.”We have toplead with Gugurang for rain.”  \nThey had to get help. They could only talk to Gugurang if they climbed to the peak of the mountain.  \nOne day, Apo Iraya told all the strong Cimarron they needed to climb Mount Asog.”I will accompany them. I want to help,” Iraga pleaded.  \nApo Iraya didn’t want his only son to be hurt. But, for the sake of his tribe, he sent Iraga along.  \nThat same day, Iraga and the other Cimarron started climbing Mount Asog. They split up and took separate routes to the mountain’speak. The path was slippery, and they had to go up many cliffs. As they climbed, many Cimarrons couldn’t go on because they were too thirsty. Others got lost in the dense forests.  \nOnly Iraga made it to the peak of Asog. He raised his eyes to the sky and pleaded,”Help us, Gugurang. Please provide us with a source of water. We want to live.”  \nThe sky became brighter and thunderous . ”I will give you what you want,” Gugurang’s voice said,”but first you must plant and grow crops around the mountain. Otherwise, when Asog erupts you’ll be forced to leave Sumagang forever .”  \nIraga hurried back down to his tribe and shared what he had heard. They took crops from the neighboring area of Sumagang and planted them around the mountain, but they all withered in the heat.  \nThe Cimarrons have given up hope. So, Apo Iraya decided to leave Sumagang before the eruption hit them.  \nIraga refused to leave Sumagang.
