This course allows for various learning styles using varied techniques to accommodate the gifted student including extensive laboratory work. This course is designed for college-bound students and for those planning on taking AP Chemistry. \nDistrict Grading Policy: \nAll grading will follow the SAISD grading guidelines. Please follow the hyperlink above to refer to the district policies. \nAssessment: \nMinor: 40% of Grading Period Average \nDaily Work: \nStudents will be required to complete weekly assignments on their own time to enhance learning , time will be allotted in class to discuss and check for understanding on these assignments. Multiple short assessments , such as “Show What You Know” and “Post Lab Quizzes” will be administered to access learning and determine the necessary pace of material being covered. \nLabs: \nMultiple labs will be completed for every unit covered. Labs consist of analysis and conclusions questions that will constitute the majority of laboratory grade. Post-lab quizzes will be utilized to assess student’s comprehension of objectives targeted in laboratory experiments. \nMajor: 60% of Grading Period Average \nTests: \nStudents will be held accountable for material covered during a unit and will be accessed through a formal test. Prior to all tests , students will be instructed as to the material they are responsible for reviewing. \nAll students that desire to improve their original unit test score may attend tutorials for remediation andretest. Retests consist of different but similar test questions found on the original unit test. The original unit test score and the retest score will be averaged together to determine the overall unit test score. Unit retests must be completed prior to the next unit test date. Retest scores will not be punitive. \nLate Work: \nAll assignments will be assigned a due date. Homework and labs are designed to reinforce and practice concepts covered in class. Homework and lab assignments are expected to be turned in on time. Late work will follow district policy. \nMake-Up Assignments: \nAs per district policy , students have the number of days absent plus one to make up missed work (The counting begins the day the student returns to class) . It is the student’s responsibility to acquire and complete make-up work. \nNote: Work that was due during the date(s) of the absence is due upon the return of the student. \nMake-up work is work that was assigned while the student was absent. \nMaterials Required: \nPersonal organization device to keep up with course materials such as a three-ring binder or folder. Writing utensils. \nMaterials Recommended: \nScientific calculators are provided for classroom use , but students may wish to have their own calculator for use at home. \nExpectations in the Classroom: \n1. Be on time. \n2. Be respectful. \n3. Complete assignments by due date. \n4. Students are responsible for make-up work. \n5. Read , learn , and follow the Lab Safety Guidelines. \n6. No cell phone usage. \n7. Student Handbook is used for discipline guidelines. \nTutorials: \nStudents are highly encouraged to attend weekly tutorials. \nI offer open tutorials on Tuesday-Friday before school , daily during Bobcat Block , and after school on Wednesdays. Extra tutorial times may be released during exam weeks. \nConference Period: 1st Period ( 8:20– 9 :09 ) \nPhone: 325-659-3434 ext. 266 \nEmail: [Charles.humphries@saisd.org](Charles.humphries@saisd.org) \nIf there are any questions or concerns , please feel free to contact me . \nRyan Humphrie","cbCaibEpPqSAw1KB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibEpPqSAw1KB","pdf",85864,"English","# Course Overview\n## Course Description\n## District Grading Policy\n# Assessment Structure\n## Minor (40%)\n## Major (60%)\n## Retesting and Remediation\n# Policies and Support\n## Late Work\n## Make-Up Assignments\n## Materials Required and Recommended\n## Classroom Expectations\n## Tutorials and Contact Information","[{\"question\":\"What topics are included in Honors Chemistry?\",\"answer\":\"The syllabus covers chemical reactions and chemical processes including atomic structure, stoichiometry, the behavior of gases, chemical periodicity, equilibrium, and bonding.\"},{\"question\":\"How is grading weighted in this course?\",\"answer\":\"Minor work accounts for 40% of the Grading Period Average, while major tests account for 60%.\"},{\"question\":\"How do make-up assignments and retests work?\",\"answer\":\"Students have a number of days absent plus one to make up missed work, starting from the day they return to class.
