The foreword explains its dramatic appeal, suitability for younger actors, and flexible performance formats including private reading, group reading aloud, classroom or youth-club acting, and public performance. acting ourselves or watching othersact-and those occasions when we are gripped by some dramatic tension maybe among the most memorable moments in our lives. In this new series we hopeto encourage this sort of experience \nDRAMASCRIPTS are intended for use in secondary schools, amateurtheatrical groups and youth clubs. The plays range widely from establishedclassics to new works and adaptations of books and film scripts. There is nothingin any of the plays that is beyond the capabilities of younger actors. They maybe used in a variety of ways:read privately for pleasure or aloud in groups, actedin the classroom, church hall or youth club,or in public performances.Themaximum enjoyment is obviously to be found in actual performance -and thebenefits of acting need no elaboration-but we have borne in mind that theplay must interest and entertain however it is used, and we are confident thateven the solitary reader will find here something of the excitement of the livetheatre. \nGUY WILLIAMSAdvisory Editor \nFor Mary \nhttps://archive.org/details/hijackplayinonea0000well \n# PRODUCTION NOTES\n\nThe play can be performed equally well on the classroom floor or on a stage. In either case the interior of the aircraft may be represented by a line of chairs, arranged in rows of four, two either side of a central gangway. The door leadingto the stewardess's quarters and the passengers'lavatory is at the rear of theplane and the door to the pilot's cabin is,of course,at the front. An exit pointmust therefore be arranged-perhaps by screens-at either end of the gangway. \nThe Professor sits towards the front of the plane and Miss Pringle sits nearhim on the opposite side of the gangway.Behind them sits Travers and behindhim Wing-Commander Fanshaw and his wife.A couple of rows further back stillsit the three schoolboys,Peter nearest the window. The chess-players sit togethersomewhere about the middle of the plane. The remaining seats should,as far aspossible,be occupied by other passengers, who may,for the sake of \nverisimilitude,converse quietly among themselves, read or even sleep exceptwhere the action of the play demands otherwise. \n# THE
