The text links gnoll origins to a hyena/carrion explanation tied to demon lord Yeenoghu, then challenges it by citing 3.5e Fiendish Codex and describing an unnamed Abyssal layer, older lore history, and territorial limits north of the peaks. It concludes that the mismatch undermines the claimed multiverse origin and ends with a conversational goes Nothing. \nIf you’re Familiar with the Inferior Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition 2024 Rules, you will know that Gnolls are Listed as Demons. \nI disapprove of this, not for Gameplay Reasons or because I do not appreciate being told that having Mortals act as Demon-Worshipping Cannibal Bandits makes me a Bad Person. \nIt is for Lore reasons and it pulls 5e ‘14 into my line of sight. \nSee, in 5e ‘14, the Gnolls are explained to be the result of Hyenas eating Carrion from one of Demon Lord Yeenoghu’s Rampages in the Material Plane, a Lore idea that is, as far as I know, invented for 5e. \nThe issue with this is, Of course, that if one reads the 3.5e Book Fiendish Codex I-Hordes ofthe Abyss, you will learn the Secret that Yennoghu hides from all in-universe. \nThat he is a Scrub. \nIf you look at the section on his Abyssal Layer, on page 146, that his Layer was Unnamed at the Time, despite Gnolls being firmly established. \nYou will also learn that to the “North” of his realm, lie the Screaming Peaks and past them, Azael’s Waste. Azael ruled this Layer long before Yeenoghu and indeed died long before Yeenoghu arrived. And Yet, despite the former resident being long dead, Yeenoghu cannot warp the land “North” of the Peaks to his Will, as he has done elsewhere. \nThis is despite being able to pump a Dying Obyrith (Lovecratian Elder-Demon) for Fell Secrets should the Mood Take him. \nI understand that Powerscaling is a pastime so lame that Even D&D Players avoid it, but a Demon Lord who cannot Terraform his Layer fully seems ill-suited to be the origin point of Gnolls in the Multiverse. \nThank you for visiting my Spiel.","cbCaihQBdvKlXbM5","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihQBdvKlXbM5","pdf",44109,"English","# Here Goes Nothing\n## Dispute over gnolls being demons\n## Competing origin explanations (5e 2024 vs 3.5e)\n## Yeenoghu’s limits and older Abyssal history\n## Powerscaling and concluding remarks","[{\"question\":\"What is the main disagreement in the rant?\",\"answer\":\"The author disapproves of gnolls being listed as demons under the D\\u0026D 5e 2024 rules and objects to the lore implications.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the text explain the claimed gnoll origin in 5e 2024?\",\"answer\":\"It states that, in 5e '14, gnolls are described as the result of hyenas eating carrion from one of Yeenoghu’s rampages in the Material Plane.\"},{\"question\":\"What alternative lore evidence does the author cite?\",\"answer\":\"The author references the 3.5e Book Fiendish Codex and claims it reveals secrets about Yeenoghu’s Abyssal layer, including that it was unnamed at the time gnolls were already established, and that older rulership predates him.\"}]","Here Goes Nothing - Gnoll Lore Rant | PDF",1791263995]
