I’m standing in the third row of folding chairs in my dress uniform with my cap on straight and my shoes shined so hard they reflect the overhead fluorescents, and I can hear him from here. Not loud. My dad doesn’t do loud. Just this thick, wet inhale from somewhere in the fifth row of the family section that I’d know anywhere because I’ve heard it exactly twice in my life: once when Grandma Eloise died and once when I got into the academy.  \nThree times now.  \nMom has her phone up.
