He’d been on this stakeout for almost two hours and the autumnal breeze was starting to get to him but he would not give up his vigil until he’d caught his prey. The avenue he was on was tranquil and pretty, each side lined with detached and very neat Victorian villas.  \nA whistle echoing down the street caused Brodie’s lips to curve and his amber eyes to narrow. Finally, they were here.  \nA man ambled along the pavement with a Jack Russell on a lead. He wore a padded blue coat and blue denim jeans, his hair dyed an unnatural black. Both man and dog stopped right outside the house Brodie was concealed behind.  \n‘Oh no you don’t,’he muttered before leaving his hiding place and tearing down the garden path towards them.‘Hey, you,’he yelled.  \nThe man physically jumped and whirled around to face him.‘What are you doing, ya crackpot?’he demanded.  \n‘You were gonnae let that wee bastard shite in one of the gardens again, weren’t you?’  \n‘So what if I was?’ sneered back the man .  \nBrodie quickly sized him up. The man was tall and looked quite athletic, he probably spent a lot of time in the gym and for that reason he thought he could take on the world.‘I’m no’ gonnae let you do it again.’  \n‘Oh aye, big man. Do you think you can stop me?’he retorted, squaring up to him.  \nBrodie’s smile was wicked.‘Aye, I dae.’  \nThe man looked down at his dog and grinned when he saw it was curling one out onto the pavement.‘Good boy, Spanky.’  \n‘Spanky?’ smirked Brodie.  \nThe man bristled.‘What’s wrong with Spanky?’  \n‘That a fetish of yours?’  \nThe man grunted and thrust his face into Brodie’s . ‘If you don’t fuck off, I’m gonnae do you in.’  \n‘Go on then.’  \n‘I mean it, I’ll batter you.’  \n‘So you said. Well don’t just stand there, do something.’  \nThe man immediately wilted and took a step back.  \n‘Just as I thought,’ said Brodie.‘All gob and nae baws.’  \nHe grabbed the man’s right arm and twisted it up his back before forcing him forward towards the dog poo steaming on the pavement. The lead slipped from the man’s hand but Spanky made no move to run off, he just regarded them quizzically, head tilted to one side.  \n‘Argh, get off,’ cried the man .‘Help, assault.’  \n‘No one around here is gonnae help you,’ said Brodie.‘They’re all sick of you and your shitey wee dug.’  \n‘Stop it, please,’ wailed the man when his face was just inches from the turd.  \n‘You’ve been asked very nicely to pick up the shite many times by the good people who live on this street and all you did was swear at them and threaten them. Well, they’ve had enough of you.’  \nBrodie shoved the man’s face right into the poo before yanking him upright and releasing him.  \n‘What have you done?’ wailed the man, excrement stuck to his face.  \n‘You’re lucky I didnae make you eat it but I will if you don’t pick it up.’‘But…I don’t have any bags,’he whimpered, hands shaking.  \nFrom his pocket Brodie produced a small black polythene bag and a wad of kitchen roll.‘Think yourself lucky I’m giving you these and I’m no’making you use your fingers and carry it away in your pocket.’  \nThe man trembled as he gathered up the poo with the kitchen roll and stuffed the lot into the bag before tying it closed.  \n‘There’s a bin at the end of the road for dog shite,’ said Brodie.‘Make sure you put it in that or I’ll bring that wee bag to your hoose and do terrible things to you with it. I know where you live, Mark.’  \nThe man blinked at him in surprise but didn’t dare reply.  \n‘Now bugger off,’barked Brodie.‘And if you ever set foot on this street again, I’ll make you eat the lot.
