AANP is committed to empowering all NPs to advance high-quality, equitable care, while addressing health care disparities through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership (PEARL) . 1 We agree with the importance of improved data collection for patients accessing treatment for mental health (MH) and substance use disorders (SUD), particularly for underserved populations. \nAs you know, NPs are advanced practice registered nurses who are prepared at the masters or doctoral level to provide primary, acute, chronic and specialty care to patients of all ages and backgrounds. Daily practice includes assessment; ordering, performing, supervising and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests; making diagnoses; initiating and managing treatment including prescribing medication and nonpharmacologic treatments; coordinating care; counseling; and educating patients and their families and communities. NPs hold prescriptive authority in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) and perform more than one billion patient visits annually. Currently, twenty-seven states, the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories have adopted full practice authority, granting patients full and direct access to nurse practitioners. \nNPs practice in nearly every health care setting including hospitals, clinics, Veterans Health Administration and Indian Health Services facilities, emergency rooms, urgent care sites, private physician or NP practices (both managed and owned by NPs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nursing facilities (NFs), schools, colleges and universities, retail clinics, public health departments, nurse managed clinics, homeless clinics, and home health care settings. \nAccording to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), APRNs and PAs comprise approximately one-third of our primary care workforce, and up to half in rural areas.2 NPs are also“significantly more likely than primary care physicians to care for vulnerable populations. Nonwhites, women, American Indians, the poor and uninsured, people on Medicaid, those living in rural areas, Americans who qualify for Medicare because of a disability, and dual-eligibles are all more likely to receive primary care from NPs than from physicians.”3 MedPAC also found that, among all clinician types, NPs on average had the highest share of allowed charges associated with low-income subsidy (LIS) beneficiaries, which includes Medicaid beneficiaries.“In 2019, 41 percent of the allowed charges billed by NPs who practiced in primary care were for LIS beneficiaries, as were 36 percent for NPs who \n1 [https://www.aanp.org/advocacy/advocacy-resource/position-statements/commitment-to-addressing-health-care-disparities-during](https://www.aanp.org/advocacy/advocacy-resource/position-statements/commitment-to-addressing-health-care-disparities-during)covid-19 \n2 [https://www.medpac.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Jun22_MedPAC_Report_to_Congress_SEC.pdf](https://www.medpac.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Jun22_MedPAC_Report_to_Congress_SEC.pdf) (see Chapter 2 .) \n3 [https://www.aei.org/research-products/report/nurse-practitioners-a-solution-to-americas-primary-care-crisis/](https://www.aei.org/research-products/report/nurse-practitioners-a-solution-to-americas-primary-care-crisis/) \npracticed in specialty care compared wi","cbCaifCgGPeTCiX7","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifCgGPeTCiX7","pdf",235311,"English","# Proposed Updates to 2025 UDS data collection\n## UDS Table 5 Definitions","[{\"question\":\"What is this letter’s purpose regarding HRSA and UDS?\",\"answer\":\"It provides AANP’s response to HRSA’s proposed revision to the Uniform Data System (UDS) information collection under OMB No. 0915-0193.\"},{\"question\":\"Which new 2025 UDS measures does HRSA propose to add, according to the letter?\",\"answer\":\"The proposed additions cover medication for opioid use disorder (MOUDs), initiation and engagement of substance use disorder treatment, tobacco use cessation pharmacotherapies, and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias screening.\"},{\"question\":\"What specific change does the letter encourage for UDS Table 5?\",\"answer\":\"It encourages HRSA to add a line for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) within the behavioral health services category of UDS Table 5.\"}]","Harrington_Comment 01212025 | PDF",1789979007,8,{"code":4,"msg":82,"data":99},[100,104,108,112,117,122,125,129,134,137,140],{"id":22,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":26,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":33,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":109,"show_sort_weight":110,"slug":111},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":113,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":114,"show_sort_weight":115,"slug":116},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":119,"show_sort_weight":120,"slug":121},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":86,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":29,"show_sort_weight":123,"slug":124},40,"healthcare",{"id":97,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":126,"show_sort_weight":127,"slug":128},"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":130,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":131,"show_sort_weight":132,"slug":133},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":132,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":135,"show_sort_weight":132,"slug":136},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":55,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":138,"show_sort_weight":55,"slug":139},"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":141,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":142,"show_sort_weight":113,"slug":143},19,"General","general"]
