subject having probably been firstused in connexion with theatre scenery.The science seems to have beendealt with so exhaustively from the time when some of the principalconstructions with which we are familiar to-day were,perhaps for thefirst time,discovered in the sixteenth century,that some explanationmay seem necessary for the production of another book.  \nI am confident in saying that in spite of the many valuable text-books on the subject produced in recent years there is none,at least tomy knowledge,that has presented the subject in so practical,clear,andcomprehensive a way from the point of view of the ArchitecturalStudent and draughtsman,who desires to set up perspective drawingsof all kinds,as does this work of Mr.Warren's.  \nThe fundamental principles of perspective draving are really verysimple,and much of the difficulty that is so often experienced by studentsis due to lengthy and what seem to be involved explanations of thediagrams zwhich,in themselves,often appear complicated.Some of thisis unavoidable by the very nature of the subject treated.Mr.Warren,however,has reduced his letterpress,in the main,to brief,explanatorydirections designed from the point of view of quick reference for con-structions covering every kind of perspective draving that is met within practice.  \nThe general principles involved in the constructions are set forth in afevo introductory paragraphs,and when these are clearly understoodeach diagram becomes largely self-explanatory with the help of thedirections on the accompanying page.  \nThe author's treatment of the problem of bird's-eye views and its  \ncomplementary one of views looking up and generally of making drav-  \nings from any angle or height is set forth admirably,and the practicalmethod of draving perspectives with the aid of the perspective plan andmeasure points is demonstrated with great clarity.A very usefulsection is that which refers to the use of the centrelinead,and the in-formation and table given in this connexion are very valuable.  \nI am convinced that this book meets a real need and should prove ofthe greatest assistance to those who require a book of reference whichwill be easily understood,and offers practical methods of solving everyproblem of perspective representation.
