\nGulf Times \nWednesday, August 26, 2026 \nQATAR \nShura Speaker meets Kyrgyz and Romanian ambassadors \nHE the Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim met separately yesterday with ambassadors Aibek Toktobolotov (Kyrgyz Republic) and Daniel Tanase (Romania). Co-operation and relations between Qatar and both the Kyrgyz Republic and Romania were discussed during the meetings, particularly in the parliamentary field. The meetings also addressed ways to enhance co-operation between the Shura Council and the Kyrgyz and Romanian parliaments.–QNA \nTraffic safety measures at 674 schools complete: Ashghal \nC \noinciding with the start of the new academic year and as part of its commitment to safeguarding students, the Pub- \nlic Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of traffic safety measures at 674 schools across Qatar. \nAs the back-to-school period requires coordinated efforts between families, schools and relevant government entities, Ashghal continues to work closely with all concerned entities to ensure a safe and healthy start to the academic year for every student. \nThis includes enhancing the readiness of infrastructure surrounding schools as a key element in protecting students and creating a secure educational environment that supports their future development, in line with the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. \nEng. Abdulla al-Maraghi, road safety engineer at Ashghal’s Roads Operation and Mainte- \nnance Department, said that school road safety remains a key priority for the authority through its School Zone Traffic Safety Programme, which has been ongoing since 2013. \nTo date, the programme covers 675 schools, with their surrounding areas assessed and upgraded in accordance with the highest international safety standards. \n“Co-operation between state entities strengthens families’ confidence in the education system,” al-Maraghi said. \n“Over the past few months, Ashghal’s teams have intensified their efforts to implement integrated engineering solutions around schools,”the official said. \n“However, safe infrastructure is only half the equation,” he said, adding: “The other half depends on road users’responsibility towards safe driving practices.” \nKey safety measures include setting a maxi- \nmum speed limit of 30kph, installing speed humps to calm traffic, and renewing road markings, pedestrian crossings and red road surfacing to provide cyclists with early warning when approaching school zones. \nSidewalks have also been widened and protective barriers installed, in addition to dedicated ramps to ensure safe and convenient access for students with disabilities. \nAshghal also calls on all road users to follow safe driving practices around schools, particularly by observing the designated speed limits and reducing speed when approaching school zones, especially during student arrival and dismissal times. \nCyclists are also urged to park only in designated areas, give full priority to pedestrians, come to a complete stop at pedestrian crossings, and maintain a safe distance from students and school staff.–QNA \nMilitary Sports Federation summer programme ends \nThe Military Sports Federa \ntion has marked the con \nclusion of its 2026 summer programme for the children of Armed Forces personnel, in the presence of federation president Major-General (Dr) Yousef Desmal al-Kuwari. \nThe month-long programme was organised in co-operation with partner entities includingthe Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), the Ministry of Interior (MoI, represented by the Drug Enforcement Directorate), the Qatar \nShooting and Archery Federation, and Aspire Zone. \nThe closing ceremony included a brief showcase of the sports activities, in which students participated throughout the summer programme, such as football, basketball, volleyball, handball, shooting, athletics, swimming, and martial arts. \nUnder the supervision of officers and coaches from the Military Sports Federation, the activit","cbCaidcTGH2kMt2H","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidcTGH2kMt2H","pdf",2355702,12,"English","# Shura Council meetings with ambassadors\n## Qatar traffic safety measures at schools complete\n## Military Sports Federation summer programme ends\n## Amir congratulates Uruguay’s president\n## Qatar’s ambassador meets Jordanian-Qatari committee\n## Volunteering as daily humanitarian practice","[{\"question\":\"What did the Shura Council Speaker discuss with the ambassadors of Kyrgyzstan and Romania?\",\"answer\":\"Co-operation and relations between Qatar and both countries were discussed, particularly in the parliamentary field, along with ways to enhance co-operation between the Shura Council and the two parliaments.\"},{\"question\":\"What traffic safety actions has Ashghal completed for schools across Qatar?\",\"answer\":\"Ashghal reported completion of traffic safety measures at 674 schools, including a 30kph maximum speed limit, speed humps, renewed road markings and crossings, wider sidewalks, protective barriers, and accessibility ramps for students with disabilities.\"},{\"question\":\"How is the summer sports programme for children of Armed Forces personnel described?\",\"answer\":\"The Military Sports Federation marked the conclusion of its 2026 month-long summer programme, featuring activities such as football, basketball, volleyball, handball, shooting, athletics, swimming, and martial arts under supervision of officers and coaches.\"}]","Gulf Times - Qatar | PDF",18]
