The instructions cover selecting suitable trunks, preparing cuttings with the required nodes and internodes, planting techniques in light sandy loam, proper spacing, sealing cut edges with moist clay, and maintaining water to encourage root and shoot development. It also includes an option for growing bamboo from longer cuttings.","Growing Bamboo \nlevel: basic \nEnglish Agriculture \nGrowing Bamboo \nIt uses material from Footsteps, the literacy publication of Tearfund \nwith kind permission \nEnglish Oxfordshire , England \nCopyright © 2019, MissionAssist \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. It can be used to carry water, \nas a building material, \nfor making furniture, \nin craft work, \nto control erosion on riverbanks, \nand many other things. \nBamboo usually grows wild, but it can be cultivated by farmers. It can be grown from cuttings. \nTake cuttings from tall trunks in a clump not more than three years old. \nTake the cuttings from the middle part of the trunk. \nA trunk 30 feet (10 metres) high will give about four cuttings. \nEach cutting must have two full, undamaged nodes, one internode and two half internodes. \nPlant the cuttings vertically, with half of the centre internode above the ground. Plant them as soon as they are cut, or they will not grow. \nPlant the cuttings in light sandy loam soil and leave plenty of space between each cutting so that they can develop. \nApply a seal of moist clay to the top cut edge of the bamboo without covering the hole. The clay will act as a disinfectant. \nPour two cups of water into the top of the bamboo cutting. Keep adding water regularly until the roots and green shoots develop at the nodes. \nYou can also grow bamboo from longer cuttings, with five internodes. \nPlant these cuttings horizontally. \nMake a hole in the centre internode, and keep it filled with water until the nodes produce roots and new growth.","cbCaigVIT9YVUTey","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigVIT9YVUTey","pdf",293491,6,1,13,"English","en",105,"# Growing Bamboo\n## Overview and uses\n## Cultivating bamboo from cuttings","[{\"question\":\"What are some common uses of bamboo mentioned in the booklet?\",\"answer\":\"Bamboo can be used to carry water, serve as a building material, make furniture, support craft work, and control erosion on riverbanks.\"},{\"question\":\"How should cuttings be selected for growing bamboo?\",\"answer\":\"Take cuttings from tall trunks in a clump not more than three years old, using the middle part of the trunk and ensuring each cutting has the required undamaged nodes and internodes.\"},{\"question\":\"What planting and watering steps help cuttings grow successfully?\",\"answer\":\"Plant cuttings vertically (or horizontally for longer cuttings), use light sandy loam soil with space between cuttings, seal the top cut edge with moist clay, and regularly add water until roots and green shoots develop at the nodes.\"}]","Growing Bamboo -
