The book explains Newton’s role in launching modern science while correcting common misunderstandings about gravity’s presence in space. It develops the idea that gravity affects all objects equally, producing the same acceleration regardless of mass or scale, and then expands toward deeper questions in the universe’s structure.","GRAVITY \nGRAVITY \nFrom Falling Apples to Supermassive Black Holes \nSecond edition \nNicholas Mee \nGreat Clarendon Street, Oxford, OX2 6DP, \nUnited Kingdom \nOxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford. School pupils are often taught that thereis no gravity in space, and that is why astronauts feel weightless. This misleading statement is passed on eventhough the main motivation for Newton’s theory was to explain the motion of the planets through space around the Sun. \nClearly, it is absurd to suggest that there is no gravity in space. The Earth and Moon are bound together by their mutual gravitational attraction, and the whole solar system is held together by gravity.
