In an actual test, you will have the additional time approved by Educational Testing Service to complete the test, which consists of a writing task and four multiple-choice sections. \nStandard timing for each section of the test is shown in the following table: \n\n| Section Order | Section Name | Standard Time |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| 1 | Analytical Writing | 30 minutes |\n| 2 | Verbal Reasoning | 21 minutes |\n| 3 | Verbal Reasoning | 28 minutes |\n| 4 | Quantitative Reasoning | 24 minutes |\n| 5 | Quantitative Reasoning | 32 minutes |\n\nBreaks, including lunch breaks, must occur at the end of sections. Once you complete a section, you may not return to it. \nIf you are using the large print edition along with another format of the practice test, you may notice differences in the wording or presentation of some questions, directions, graphics or explanations. Similarly, if you take the GRE ® General Test using multiple formats, you may notice differences in the wording or presentation of questions, directions or graphics. In both cases the differences are the result of adaptations made for each format. \nEssay Response \nYour essay response on the Analytical Writing section will be reviewed by experienced essay readers during the scoring process. In light of the high value placedon independent intellectual activity within graduate schools and universities, ETS reserves the right to cancel test scores of any test taker when an essay response includes any of the following: \n● Text that is unusually similar to that found in one or more other GRE essay responses; \n● Quoting or paraphrasing, without attribution, language that appears in published or unpublished sources; \n● Unacknowledged use of work that has been produced through collaboration with others without citation of the contribution of others; \n● Essays submitted as work of the test taker that appear to have been borrowed in whole or in part from elsewhere or prepared by another person. \nWhen one or more of the above circumstances occurs, ETS may conclude, in its professional judgment, that the essay response does not reflect the independent writing skills that this test seeks to measure . When ETS reaches that conclusion, it cancels the Analytical Writing score and, because the Analytical Writing score is an integral part of the test as a whole, scores for the GRE General Test are canceled as well. \nThe Analytical Writing task begins on page 8. In an actual test, your supervisor will tell you when the testing time starts, at which point you may turn the page and begin. \nSection 1 \nAnalytical Writing \nDirections \nPlan and compose a response to the following issue. A response to any other issue will receive a score of zero . Make sure that you respond according to the specific instructions and support your position on the issue with reasons and examples drawn from such areas as your reading, experience, observations, and/or academic studies. \nIn an actual test, trained GRE readers will evaluate your response for its overall quality based on how well you do each of the following: \n􀁸 Respond to the specific task instructions \n􀁸 Consider the complexities of the issue \n􀁸 Organize, develop, a","cbCaibXn00Lt5gGS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibXn00Lt5gGS","pdf",352807,32,"English","# Section 1—Analytical Writing\n## Directions\n## Essay Response and Scoring Policies\n## Planning and Response Format","[{\"question\":\"How long is Section 1 Analytical Writing in the practice test?\",\"answer\":\"Standard timing for Analytical Writing is 30 minutes.\"},{\"question\":\"What can cause ETS to cancel Analytical Writing scores?\",\"answer\":\"ETS may cancel scores if an essay is unusually similar to others, includes unattributed quotations/paraphrases from sources, or reflects unacknowledged collaboration or borrowed work prepared by someone else.\"},{\"question\":\"When should you start planning and writing for the Analytical Writing task?\",\"answer\":\"Before writing, take a few minutes to think and plan.
