As the gods walk the world , the cypies channel divine power , evil denominations make dark sacrifices in underground lair , and bright paladins stand as beacons against darkness , it's hard to be ambivalent about the gods and deny their existence. Many in the world of D&D D worship different gods at different times and circumstances. Those in the forgotten realm , for example , can pray for Sune for good luck in love , make an offer for Waukeen before going to market , and pray to appease Talos when a severe storm blows in-all on the same day. Many have a favorite among the gods , one who has ideals and doctrines that they make for themselves. And a few devote entirely to a single god , often serving as a priest or champion of that god's ideals. Your DM determines which god , if any , is worshipped during his campaign. From among the available gods , you can choose a single god for your character to serve , worship , or pay lip service to. Or you can choose a few that your character prays most often. Or just make a spiritual note of the revered gods in your dm campaign so you can call their names as appropriate. If you are playing a cympath or a character with an Acolyte background , decide which god your deity serves or serve and consider the gods' proposed domain names when choosing your character's domain name. The realm of life and death Many gods in this section recommend the realm of life , especially if they are closely related to healing , protection , childbirth , nurture , or fertility. As described in chapter 3 , though , the life domain is extremely broad , and a cymever of any evil god can choose it. Several other gods , mostly evil ones , suggest death domain names , which are detailed in Dungeon Master's Guide. Most clergy choose this domain as the evil NPC , but if you want to worship a god of death , consult your Dungeon Master. &D& D Pantheons Every World in multi-universe D& D has its own pantheons of gods , varying sizes from pantheons tinged with forgotten realms and Greyhawk to the more concentrated religions of Eberron and Dragonlance. Many of the nonhuman races worship the same gods in different worlds-Moradin , for example , is revered by the dwarves of the forgotten realms , the Greyhawk , and many other worlds. Forgotten Realms Dozens of gods are revered , worshipped , and feared throughout the world of forgotten realms. At least thirty widely known gods across the realms , and more are worshipped locally , by individual tribes , small denominations , or some denomination of larger religious temples.
