may seemunrealisticin societies that wish to extend childhood andperpetuate an attitude ofplay.But among the generality of humankind,living under precarious conditions,a person is,by the age of 15,already shouldering weighty responsibilities.Viewedfrom this perspective,the years immediately before that age take on specialsignificance.It is during those challenging transitional years that fundamentalconcepts about individual and collective life are formulated in the mind of anadolescent struggling to leave behind the habits of childhood.Youth at this agehave much to say,and whoever treats them as children misses the opportunityto help them form a proper identity.  \nGlimmerings of Hope is one textbook in a series,created by DL Publica-ciones(DLP),that strives to meet the requirements of this age group.It emergedout of a process of action and reflection that sought to offer young minds thefirst elements of a gradually expanding framework within which they could dealwith the complexities of life.The series,still in the early stages of preparation,isintended to be studied over the course of three years,generally beginning at theage of 11 or 12.The texts
