Triggered by a sermon from St. John 12:24-25, she reflects on the “corn of wheat” needing to fall into the ground and die to bear fruit. She describes family reactions, spiritual struggle, guidance through prayer, and the lasting impact of her decision, expressing enduring faith and God’s in Great Britain byLatimer Trend 8 Co Ltd,Plymouth \n# THE CORN OF WHEAT\n\nIT was on Easter Sunday evening, about fifty-one yearsago, when I was twenty years of age, that I gave myheart to Christ.I lived in London, and was brought upin a Christian home with eight brothers and sisters.Myfather was a very dedicated Christian.I didn't want tobe a Christian,I thought I could manage my life quitewell myself.I didn't want to do anything very wicked, but I didn't want to be restricted. \nMy eldest sister was a very keen Christian, andprayed much for those of us who were so rebellious.OneEaster she said she was going to Westminster Chapel tohear a very great preacher,Dr.Campbell Morgan, andshe talked about it all the week. But when Sundayevening came,a friend arrived from the North ofEngland, and she could not go.She was so disappointed, and pushed a notebook and pencil into my hand saying,\"You go and take notes for me.\"I was so sorry for her,and I thought, well,I could sit at the back and putdown what the man says as I could write shorthand.Sooff I went and sat at the back of this huge chapel. \nThe preacher's text was from St.John I2,24,25·\"Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die,it abideth alone, but if it die,it bringeth forth muchfruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it,and he that \nhateth his life in this world shall keep it unto lifeeternal. If any man serve me,let him follow me.Nowis my soul troubled and what shall I say?Father, saveme from this hour? But for this cause came I unto thishour.Father, glorify Thy name.” \nThe preacher took a corn of wheat between hisfingers and held it up,and said,\"If I put this grain ofwheat into a box,and put it on a shelf, and in,say, twenty or thirty years, open the box, there will be justone grain of wheat inside, abiding alone. If I broke itopen it would be black inside,it would have witheredwithin itself. On the other hand,if I take this corn ofwheat and let it fall into the ground and die,it willgrow and bring forth an ear of corn and eventuallymuch fruit.Whoso keepeth his life shall lose it,and hethat loseth his life for My sake shall find it.”The corn ofwheat was made for the soil, and the earth was the onlyplace where its potentialities could be released and itslife fulfilled. So man was made for God and He onlycould bring our life to fulfilment. \nAll the time the Doctor was preaching,I knew thatthis was the truth about life, and I knew God wasspeaking to me and calling me to follow Him and giveHim my life. \nWhen I got home, during supper,my brothers andsisters laughingly said,“What did the preacher say?” \nI looked across at my father and, with the tearsstreaming down my face,I preached that sermon tothem all,and I said,\"I have got to be that corn ofwheat and die,\"and I went up into my bedroom, and \nknelt by my bed and wept in the darkness for a longtime.I didn't want to give my life to Christ,I wantedto keep it.At the sametime,I didn't want, when I gotold,to look back and see that I had withered withinmyself, and that I was abiding alone.I wanted to thinkthat my life would be fruitful. \nThe Devil was very active, and made the way sodark. He said,\"You will have a miserable life.Youwill have to wear thick black stockings”(all theChristians did in our circle in those days).\"You willbe an old maid, nobody will want to marry you.\"Andthen I remembered the last part of the sermon, whenJesus was contemplating His Cross. He said,\"Now ismy soul troubled, and what shall I say?Father, saveme from this hour? But for this cause came I unto thishour.Father, glorify Thy name.\"I felt comforted;Ifelt Christ was with me and understood, and I r","cbCaidkajOvR2sQ7","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidkajOvR2sQ7","pdf",3322042,84,"English","# GLADYS NASH - THE CORN OF WHEAT\n##
