CCAT is a standardized reasoning assessment used for gifted testing in Canada. It is group-administered to grades K-12 students in Canada. The test is designed to determine the student’s aptitude for learning. The result indicates a student’s IQ, and may be seen as predicting the student’s general achievement in school. \nThe CCAT covers questions related to three sets of abilities. \nVerbal – The verbal section assesses a student’s understanding of the structure of language and relationships between words. It measures the ability to use language for reasoning tasks. \n• Verbal Reasoning (Grade K to 2 only) \n• Oral Vocabulary (Grade K to 2 only) \n• Verbal Analogies (Grade 2 onwards) \n• Sentence Completion (Grade 3 onwards) \n• Verbal Classification (Grade 3 onwards) \nQuantitative – The quantitative area measures the student’s abilities for reasoning and problem solving using numbers and mathematical concepts. \n• Quantitative Concepts (Grade K to 2 only) \n• Relational Concepts (Grade K to 2 only) \n• Equation Building (Grade 2 onwards) \n• Number Analogies (Grade 3 onwards) \n• Number Puzzles (Grade 3 onwards) \n• Number Series (Grade 3 onwards) \nNon-Verbal – Questions in the nonverbal section contain diagrams and pictures. This section assesses a student’s ability to reason and problem solve independent of language. \n• Figure Classification (All grades) \n• Figure Matrices & Analogy (All grades) \n• Paper Folding (All grades) \nCopyright © GiftedEducation.ca. In fact, the high stakes of this test make it that much more important that you ensure your child is fully ready when they walk into the testing room. \nCanadian Cognitive Abilities Test™ (CCAT™) is a trademark of Nelson Education, or its affiliate(s), or its licensors.
