It introduces core concepts such as use cases and actors, describes stakeholders, scenarios, extensions, and use case properties, and outlines how to scope and level models. The paper further covers preconditions and guarantees, organizing and writing in iterations, relationships with other UML artifacts, and comparisons to function hierarchy. Guidance includes creating and recording use cases with JDeveloper 10.1.3 and Oracle consulting best practices.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/technology/","Technology",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/getting-started-with-use-case-modeling-may-2007-oracle-white-paper/655912/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/getting-started-with-use-case-modeling-may-2007-oracle-white-paper/655912.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"iuabcfuw","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-10-25",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",6,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What is use case modeling, and why are use case diagrams considered secondary?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"Use case modeling is fundamentally a text form for specifying functional requirements, primarily through scenarios. \nGetting Started With Use Case Modeling \nINTRODUCTION \nThese days use case modeling is often associated with UML, although it has been introduced before UML existed. Ivar Jackobson has been credited with inventing use cases which appeared in the object-oriented community somewhere in 1992. \nIf you have seen even the smallest thing of use cases, it is likely that this has been a use case diagram with a figure like shape from which an line goes to an \nellipse with a few words in it. “This is not a use case” \nAnd you may have been told that this is how functional specifications are created in UML. Everyone who has ever written functional specifications that consisted of pages of text will then at least raise an eyebrow and think this cannot be true. And you will be very right to do so! \nIn this paper it will be explained what use case modeling really is about and you will find out that it is fundamentally a text form for which a use case diagram is not much more than an index. It will also describe an effective way to create use cases and to record them with JDeveloper 10.1.3, and Oracle Consulting’s best practices with that. \nFor those familiar with traditional Structured Analysis use case modeling is compared with using a Function Hierarchy. \nThe contents of this paper are greatly inspired by the book “Writing Effective Use Cases","cbCaitBPDfVU58HC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitBPDfVU58HC","pdf",311292,"English","# INTRODUCTION\n# WHAT IS USE CASE MODELING\n## Use Cases\n## Actors\n## A TEXT FORM\n## Scenarios\n## Extensions\n## Use Case Properties\n## Use Case Templates\n# SCOPE AND LEVEL\n## Design Scope\n## Business and System Use Cases\n## Use Case Level\n# PRECONDITIONS AND GUARANTEES\n# USE CASE DIAGRAMS\n## Actors and Use Cases\n## Use Case Inclusions\n## Use Case Extensions\n## Generalized Use Cases and Actors\n# ORGANIZING USE CASES\n# WRITING IN ITERATIONS\n# RELATION WITH OTHER UML ARTIFACTS\n# USE CASES VERSUS FUNCTION HIERARCHY\n# MORE INFORMATION","[{\"question\":\"What is use case modeling, and why are use case diagrams considered secondary?\",\"answer\":\"Use case modeling is fundamentally a text form for specifying functional requirements, primarily through scenarios.
