It is very different to the way we travel in Papua New Guinea.  \nFirst, I went by Air NiuGini from Port Moresby to Brisbane in Australia. From there, I flew on an Air New Zealand plane to  \nWellington. That wasn't so different. We travel by plane in Papua New Guinea too.  \nllington, the capital of  \n1  \nAt the airport I didn't see any helicopters. In Papua New Guinea, mining companies, the police and some landowners use helicopters a lot. In New Zealand, because the roads are better, they don't use helicopters so much — mainly just for emergencies. I was picked up by a car from the airport and was on my way to Johnsonville, where I would be working for two weeks.  \n2  \nJohnsonville is a suburb not far from Wellington. There is a railway track that runs between Johnsonville and Wellington. It ran right past the office where I was working.  \n\"It would be a good idea if I go for a train ride,” I thought. One day after work, I caught the train. I paid $1.5O (that's about K3.00) for my ticket. We went through seven tunnels and into 3  \nIn Wellington, I saw lots taxis, just like we have in Papua New Guinea. I rode around the city on a bus. These do the same job as our PMVs but they don t have a crew or offside. There you just pay your money to the driver. In New Zealand you can get a bus to any part of the country. In Papua New Guinea, we can get a PMV to some places like from Lae to Madang or the Highlands,  \n4  \nIn Wellington, I also went on the cable car. It’s like a small train that gets pulled up the hill with a cable — a steel wire rope. I saw lots of people walking in Wellington; out only short distances from the railway to their offices. In Papua New Guinea a lot of people walk long  \ndistances, sometimes on steep muddy mountain tracks. New Zealanders tell me they would t weary if they had to walk  \n5  \nNew Zealand has two main islands — the North Island and the South Island. There is a big wharf in Wellington where container ships, sailing boats, and big ferries berth. The ferries carry people, cars, trucks and even trains between Wellington, and Picton atthe top of the South Island.  \nIn PNG, we have boats too. Some, like the Rabaul Queen, carry passengers and cargo between  \n6  \nOne Sunday morning, I travelled on the ferry to Picton. It took three hours to get there. I wondered whether I would see some canoes, but no. In New Zealand they don’t use canoes or dinghies for transport.
