It describes a set of three computer-generated indexes placed in appendices A–C, each providing one-line summaries of GEOTHERM records for geothermal fluid chemistry. The appendix layouts, sorting variables, and guidance for handling incomplete fields are explained to help users locate relevant geothermal records efficiently.","UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORGEOLOGICAL SURVEY \nALASKA \nbasic data for thermal springs and wellsas recorded in GEOTHERM \nBy \nJames D.BlissU.S.Geological SurveyMenlo Park,California \nU.S.Geological SurveyOpen-File Report 83-426 \nThis report is preliminary andhas not been reviewed for conformitywith U.S.Geological Surveyeditorial standards and stratigraphicnomenclature.Any use oftrade names is for descriptivepurposes only and does not implyendorsement by the USGS. \nApril,1983 \nINTRODUCTION \nGEOTHERM,a computerized information system now offline, wasused to maintain data on the geology, geochemistry and hydrologyof geothermal sites primarily within the United States.Thesystem was proposed at the First Geothermal Implementation Conf-erence in New Zealand in 1974(Swanson,1977)and was activeuntil 1983.The primary mission was to provide a broad inform-ational framework for the Geothermal Research Program(Duffieldand Guffanti,1981).GEOTHERM was used to support nationalgeothermal assessments--in 1978(Muffler,1979)and 1982(Reed,1983).It was however a public system and provided data to bothpublic and private sectors.A detailed discussion on databasesin GEOTHERM and a general scheme of how the information systemoperated can be found in Bliss and Rapport(in press). \nThis report on Alaska is one of a series intended to pre-serve the data collected for GEOTHERM and make the data availableto the public.States with significant geochemical data forgeothermal fluids wil1 be covered in individual reports such asthis.A report wil1 also be issued to cover miscellaneous datacollected for sites in the central and eastern United States. The data found in this series is also available as a data fileon the internationally-available General Electric Mark IIIservice,a timeshare network. Those interested in accessingthat system should contact the Energy Resource Center,Universityof Oklahoma,Norman,Ok1ahoma 73070. It is anticipated that aportion of the data will also be available on magnetic tape fromthe National Technical Information Service,U.S.Department ofCommerce,Springfield,VA 22161.It wil¹not be availableuntil after the completion of the open-file series. \n# GEOTHERM INDEXES\n\nThree computer-generated indexes are found in appendices A, \nB,and C of this report. The indexes give one line summaries ofeach GEOTHERM record describing the chemistry of geothermalsprings and welis in the sample file for Alaska. Each index issorted by different variables to assist the user in 1ocatinggeothermal records describing specific sites. \nAppendix A(p.97-100)is sorted by the name of the source. Also given are site type(spring,wel1,fumarole),latitude,longitude(both use decimal minutes),township, range, section,GEOTHERM record identifier, and temperature(C). In conductinga search of Appendix A,site names are quite useful for locatingsprings or wel1s for which a specific name is commonly used, but sites which do not have specific names are more difficultto locate. It is suggested that site titles which begin withwords such as warm,hot,unnamed,pumped,wel1,or spring bechecked.Descriptive text found as part of the site name andthe site coordinates should be used to assist in determining1ocation. \nAppendix B(p.101-105)is sorted by township, range, andsection. Also given are name of source,GEOTHERM record ident-ifier,and temperature(C).Records missing items used forsorting wil¹be listed first. \nAppendix C(p.106-111)is first sorted into one-degreeblocks by latitude, and longitude, and then by name of source.Adjacent one-degree blocks which are published as a 1:250,000map are combined under the appropriate map name. Also given areGEOTHERM record identifier, and temperature(C). Recordsmissing items used for sorting wil¹be listed first.Numberswith blank in the same position as zero wil¹be given first. \n# GEOTHERM SAMPLE FILE\n\nGEOTHERM sample file contains 179 records for Alaska(Table \n1).Records may be present which are duplicates for the sameanalyses.A record may cont","cbCaibDsrhDSIBNA","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibDsrhDSIBNA","pdf",4111507,1,118,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n# GEOTHERM Indexes\n## Appendix A\n## Appendix B\n## Appendix C\n# GEOTHERM Sample File\n# GEOTHERM Bibliography","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the GEOTHERM indexes in this Alaska report?\",\"answer\":\"The report provides three computer-generated indexes that summarize GEOTHERM records by one-line chemistry descriptions, helping users locate records for specific geothermal sites.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Appendix A help users find records?\",\"answer\":\"Appendix A is sorted by source name and includes site type, coordinates, survey location identifiers, and temperature, with suggestions for searching unnamed or generically titled sites.\"},{\"question\":\"How are records organized in Appendix B and Appendix C?\",\"answer\":\"Appendix B is sorted by township, range, and section, while Appendix C groups records by one-degree latitude/longitude blocks and associates adjacent map-published blocks with their map names.\"}]","GEOTHERM indexes -
