Last year we developed an extensive and ambitious Diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy which sought to help our people to reach their potential by building a culture of inclusion, trust and authenticity whilst ensuring that our workforce better reflects the diversity of the working population. \nOur Diversity and Inclusion strategy \nIn 2025, pay inequality remains a persistent issue across the UK labour market, with national benchmarks showing only incremental improvements. According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data released in October 2025, the median UK gender pay gap stands at 12.8%, down slightly from 13.1% in 2024. This figure reflects the difference in median hourly earnings (excluding overtime) between men and women across all roles. [[ons.gov.uk](ons.gov.uk)] \nGender pay gap for median gross hourly earnings (excluding overtime), UK, April 2020 to April 2025 \n20 \n0 \n14.9 15.1 \n 14.4 14.2 \n 13.1 12.8 \nEqual pay \n2020 2025 \n2 | Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap Report 2025 © 2026 AQA \nEthnicity pay gap reporting, though not yet mandatory across the UK, continues to grow as an important indicator of workforce equity. \nAQA’s own results, set out in this report, should be interpreted in this wider UK context. While the national picture shows slow progress, it reinforces the importance of targeted, evidence-based action to reduce structural inequalities in access to progression, reward, and representation. \nThis report presents our 2025 Gender and Ethnicity pay gap figures, comparing them with previous year's data and outlining our ongoing initiatives to address these disparities. Whilst we acknowledge thereis still plenty of work to be done, we are optimistic that our organisational D&I strategy is beginning to have a positive \nimpact on both our culture of inclusion and our representation across all levels of the organisation. \nAbout us: \nSince 1903, AQA has been designing fair and inclusive assessments. In 2025, \n1.1 million students sat \n3.6 million AQA GCSE, AS and A-level exams. These contained around 10,000 questions on 106 different subjects. \nBut AQA is more than an exam board. As an independent education \ncharity, AQA reinvests all income into research, innovation and growth that improve assessment worldwide. \nFrom funding cutting-edge studies to supporting best practice in education, AQA is committed to making assessment fairer and more impactful for teaching, learning and society. \nWe believe in transparency and accountability when addressing pay disparities. Our policies and practices aim to promote fairness across all levels of the organisation. It is important to distinguish between a pay gap and equal pay –while equal pay ensures individuals performing the same work receive equal compensation, a pay gap reflects broader disparities in representation and progression within an organisation. \nThis report outlines: \n• AQA’s current gender and ethnicity pay gap figures. \n• Contributing factors to these gaps, including representation in senior roles and changes in hiring activity. \n• Actions being implemented to reduce disparities and create opportunities for all colleagues to thrive, regardless of their background. \n© 2026 AQA Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap Report 2025 | 3 \nPay gap 2024/2025 \nChange \nsince 2024 \nMedian gender pay gap ~~ ~~~~ ~~11.5%~~ ~~~~ ~~ 1.9% Mean gender pay gap ~~ ~~~~ ~~10.8%~~ ~~~~ ~~ 1.3% \nMedian ethnicity pay gap ~~ ~~~~ ~~35.7%~~ ~~~~ ~~ 4.2% Mean ethnicity pay gap ~~ ~~~~ ~~24.1%~~ ~~~~ ~~ 3.6% \nPay gap progress \nGender Ethnicity \nMedian pay gap (%) Mean pay gap (%) Median pay gap (%) Mean pay gap (%) \n2023 2025 2023 2025 2023 2025 2023 2025 \n4 | Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap Report 2025 © ","cbCaieLW0KXHlQOH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieLW0KXHlQOH","pdf",5080899,"English","# Executive Summary\n# Our Diversity and Inclusion strategy\n# About us\n# Pay gap 2024/2025\n## Pay gap progress\n# Methodology\n# Understanding our pay gap data\n## Gender representation and its impact","[{\"question\":\"What does the report say about the 2025 UK gender pay gap and how it changed from 2024?\",\"answer\":\"The report cites the latest ONS data showing the median UK gender pay gap at 12.8% in October 2025, down from 13.1% in 2024.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the report distinguish pay gap from equal pay?\",\"answer\":\"Equal pay focuses on individuals receiving equal compensation for the same work, while a pay gap reflects broader differences in representation and progression within an organisation.\"},{\"question\":\"What methodology does the report use to calculate pay gap figures?\",\"answer\":\"The report collects employee-level data at the 5th April snapshot date, calculates hourly rates using ordinary pay and contracted weekly hours, applies eligibility rules and exclusions, and then computes mean and median hourly pay differences between men and women.\"}]","Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap Report 2025 - Version 1.0 - April 2026 | PDF",1792463706]
