It runs under Windows 95 or later on PC compatibles with screen resolution of at least 800 x 600. GemCad simulates a faceting machine and shows you accurate 3−D views of the stone. GemCad understands symmetry, so you typically have to cut only a fraction of the facets to get the full design. GemCad can follow paths of light rays through the stone to allow you to optimize a design to minimize light loss. The end product isan accurate faceting diagram that shows several views of the stone with accurate angles, indexes and dimensions. \nThe program has three main purposes: \n1. Proof−cutting an existing diagram. Proof−cutting a design on the computer allows you to check the accuracy of the diagram and discover pitfalls before wasting valuable rough. \n2. Editing a diagram. You can take an existing diagram and modify it to optimize its optical performance for different materials. You can scale a diagram to make it fatter or skinnier to fit a certain piece of rough. \n3. Designing a stone from scratch. Advanced users can use GemCad to create new designs. GemCad frees the user from the tedious calculations required to determine angles. \nGemCad for Windows can open files made by GemCad 4.51 forDOS, and the DOS GemRay can open files made by GemCad for Windows. \nGemCad doesn't model curved surfaces or notches but is limited to convex designs that can be cut on any faceting machine. \nIf you have the Datavue II database of facet designs installed on your system, GemCad can access it directly. \nYou can find current information [about](about GemCad at www.gemcad.com)[ GemCad](about GemCad at www.gemcad.com)[ at](about GemCad at www.gemcad.com)[ www.gemcad.com](about GemCad at www.gemcad.com). \nSample Designs \nGemCad's setup program should have installed a number of sample designs on your system. Unless you gave it a different location, these should be located in the folder: \nC:\\Program Files\\GemCadWin\\Designs \nQuick Start Tutorial:Proof−Cutting a Design \nWhy would you want to proof−cut a design on the computer? \nIf you have a diagram that you have never cut before, proof−cutting will verify that the angles and indexes on the diagram will produce the design as pictured. This is particularly valuable when cutting designs created before computers. Even for diagrams that are accurate, it is easy to get lost because the design changes d","cbCaiawPW7yivisu","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiawPW7yivisu","pdf",787007,57,"English","# Overview\n## Quick Start Tutorial: Proof-Cutting a Standard Round Brilliant Screen Layout\n## Four View\n## New Facet Info Box\n## Spin View\n## Cutting Instructions View\n## Toolbar\n## Status Bar\n## Menu Bar\n## Menu Commands\n### File Menu\n### Edit Menu\n### View Menu\n### Preform Menu\n### Raytrace Menu\n## Advanced Tutorial: Design Exercise\n## Appendix A: GemCad forDOS Command Equivalents\n## Appendix B: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions","[{\"question\":\"What are GemCad’s three main purposes?\",\"answer\":\"GemCad supports proof-cutting an existing diagram, editing a diagram to optimize optical performance, and designing a stone from scratch for advanced users.\"},{\"question\":\"What kind of gemstone designs can GemCad handle?\",\"answer\":\"GemCad does not model curved surfaces or notches and is limited to convex designs that can be cut on any faceting machine.\"},{\"question\":\"How does GemCad help optimize designs optically?\",\"answer\":\"GemCad can trace light-ray paths through the stone to optimize a design and minimize light loss, producing accurate faceting diagrams with angles and dimensions.\"}]","GemCad for Windows - Version 1.0 User's Guide - September 17, 2002 | PDF",1792993860,144]
