Assessment includes a 60% exam component and 40% practical work, with theory exams in summer of Year 11 and practical marks submitted in May.","GCSE: Physical EducaƟon  \nAwarding Body: AQA Course Level: GCSE  \nWhat is the Course?  \nGCSE PE enables students to enjoy and understand the benefits of living a healthy and acƟve lifestyle. In Year 10 students will receive 1 lesson a week of theory work where they will study the effects of exercise on the body, the organisaƟon of sport in the UK and the psychology of sport. The double lesson of GCSE PE will be for pracƟcal acƟvity.  \nWhat will I learn?  \nAs part of the theory, students will gain an understanding of the following topics: Anatomy and Physiology  \nMovement Analysis  \nPhysical training ‐ how to improve fitness  \nSports Psychology  \nSocio Cultural influence  \nHealth, fitness and well being  \nEach concept will be covered in relaƟon to its effect in sports parƟcipaƟon and per‐ formance.  \nHow will I be assessed?  \nThe exam will make up 60% of the overall grade. The assessment and pracƟcal work is 40%. Thirty percent pracƟcal performance in three different sports and 10% analysis and evaluaƟon of performance and producƟon of a wriƩen training pro‐ gramme. Of the three sports one must be a team sport and one an individual sport.  \nWhen will I be assessed?  \nThe two theory exams are taken during the summer of Year 11. The pracƟcal work is assessed throughout the course, however final marks are submiƩed during May of Year 11.  \nAddiƟonal InformaƟon  \nPupils who chose this opƟon must have a passion for performing, perfecƟng and learning about sport. It is essenƟal that you are performing sport outside of school. A well moƟvated hard working personality is essenƟal if high standards are to be achieved. It is an ideal opportunity to gain a GCSE qualificaƟon to learning about something you enjoy. However it is not an easy opƟon, those who believe this will be surprised at the workload.
