There is no higher or foundation paper, all students will sit the exact same papers and will all have an opportunity to pertain all available grades. All students will also take AQA’s Speaking and Listening examination which is not part of the GCSE qualification. This will give students a separate speaking qualification to place on university applications and future CVs to prove their fluency in English.  \nWill either GCSE involve coursework?  \nNo. At present, the AQA Language and Literature courses are 100% examination-based. Your child will sit two English Literature papers in May of Year 11, and two English Language papers in June of Year 11.  \nWhat texts will my child study for GCSE Literature?  \nAll students will study:  \n- A Shakespeare play  \n- A modern (post-1914) text  \n- A 19th Century novel  \n- A poetry anthology  \nThe text itself will depend on which English class your child is in. Currently, our students study:  \n- Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet  \n- An Inspector Calls or Lord of the Flies  \n- The Strange Case of Jekyll and Hyde or A Christmas Carol or Frankenstein or Pride and Prejudice  \n- The AQA Poetry anthology  \nIn general, students who are well-read and familiar with a broad variety of texts (not just the ones explored in class with their teachers) will perform best, not just within the English GCSEs but across all of their GCSEs.
