The qualification is structured into Component 1 Devising Drama (40%) with a devised original performance and an evaluated portfolio, Component 2 Performance (20%) with scripted extracts, and Component 3 Examination (40%) covering text interpretation and live theatre evaluation.","GCSE DRAMA Subject: GCSE Drama Subject leader: Mr S D Butler  \nExam board: Edexcel GCSE Drama (1DR0)  \nStudying Drama encourages students to:  \n■ develop a personal interest in drama and develop skills of creativity, critical thinking and self-discipline.  \n■ work imaginatively and creatively, generating, developing and communicating ideas.  \n■ reflect on and evaluate their own work and the work of others.  \n■ acquire and demonstrate competence through a range of practical, creative and performance skills.  \nComponent 1: Devising Drama: Devise your own play (40%)  \n- In groups, you will devise a short original performance based on a range of stimuli you explore in class  \n- You will rehearse and develop it over several weeks and perform it as part of your assessment.  \n- You will write a portfolio (1500–2000 words) evaluating the process and final performance you created.  \n- You will be marked on your contributions, your final performance and your written work.  \nComponent 2: Performance: Perform in a scripted play (20%)  \n- In groups you will rehearse and perform in a play. You perform two different extracts from the play which means you get to take on different characters and try out different roles.  \n- You will perform in front of a visiting examiner  \n- You will be marked on your final performances  \nComponent 3: Examination: Study/interpret a play and go to the theatre to  \nanalyse another play: 1 hour 45 min (40%)  \nThere are two sections to the exam:  \n-  Section A: Bringing Texts to Life  (45marks)  \nPlay: The Crucible by Arthur Miller  \nThe first section of the exam is based on a play you study (practically!) in class. You will be given an unseen extract from the play and write about it from the perspective of an actor, director and designer based. The exam consists of one question broken into five parts (short and extended responses) . You could make links to the practical work you have done in class as well as write about how you would approach the extract as a professional theatre maker.  \n-  Section B: Live Theatre Evaluation  (15marks)  \nThe second part of the exam requires you to go to the theatre and watch/review a play you have seen! There are two questions which require you to analyse and evaluate the play you saw. You will have been taken to see a play atthe theatre and you will need to write about elements of that production and their impact on the audience.
