By surveying key examples of art and architecture produced in and across the three city states over a period of 100 years, students will enjoy the opportunity of exploring both the key works and a broader range of influential works, and the political and social context of production of the era. \nScope of works \nThe specification makes clear the requirements for the detailed study of at least 18 works of art and architecture across six categories of work in each of the regions of Florence, Rome and Venice. Therefore, in this Period, the requirement is to cover works produced in (or for) each of the city states or regions. \nIn this Period alone, works are positioned according to their place of commission and production rather than by the place of birth of the artist. Therefore, it is important that students are aware of when, for example, Michelangelo was working in Florence and when in Rome, and which works were done for which city. In the same way, the identity and requirements of the patron play a significant part in the development and variety of the styles in each of the three city states. \nKey topics \nThese Key topics are clearly explained in the specification and elaborate on what should be taught around each work and are set out in a tabular format. They are added here for reference. \nAll examination questions will refer to the Scope of works and Key topics explained on pages 17–19 in the specification. \n\n| Subjects, forms and styles\u003Cbr>Works to be studied | |\n| --- | --- |\n| Scope of works | (a) Religious paintings in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| | (b) Religious sculpture in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| | (c) Mythological works in 2D or 3D in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| | (d) Portraits in 2D or 3D in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| | (e) Religious architecture in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| | (f) Secular architecture in Florence, Rome and Venice. |\n| Key topics What students need to learn | |\n| 1 Art historical terms and concepts | (a) Relevant terminology for 2D, 3D and architecture. |\n| | (b) Formal elements and their effects or contributions to meaning. |\n| | (c) Concepts relevant to the period: genres and subjects; classical antiquity; idealism and realism; Humanism; Neoplatonism; iconography; ‘disegno’; artisan/artist. |\n| 2 Cultural, social, technological and political factors | (a) How the works were influenced by cultural/social factors,\u003Cbr>e.g. the rise of trade, education and urbanisation, an interest in classical antiquity. |\n| | (b) How the works were influenced by political factors, e.g. the impact of events; relationships between states; European figures (e.g. Savonarola, the Popes) . |\n| | (c) How the works were influenced by technological factors,\u003Cbr>e.g. the development of printing (Gutenberg); laws of linear perspective. |\n| | (d) How the works were influenced by other locations and movements or periods, e.g. Gothic, Flemish and Byzantine art, and influences from one city to another (such as Florence on Rome) . |\n| | (e) How each chosen specified artist was influenced by two oth","cbCaihtThydK7MQB","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihtThydK7MQB","pdf",346782,22,"English","# Introduction\n# Scope of works\n# Key topics\n## Art historical terms and concepts\n## Cultural, social, technological and political factors\n## Developments in materials, techniques and processes\n## Ways in which art has been used and interpreted by past and present societies\n# Specified artists\n# Selecting your key works\n# Critical texts\n# Organising your teaching\n# Assessment\n# Resources","[{\"question\":\"What is the time span and focus of Topic Guide C1?\",\"answer\":\"Topic Guide C1 examines the Renaissance in Italy from 1420 to 1520, under the theme “Invention and illusion.”\"},{\"question\":\"How many works must students study and how are they distributed?\",\"answer\":\"Students must study at least 18 works of art and architecture across six work categories, covering works produced in (or for) Florence, Rome, and Venice.\"},{\"question\":\"Which key topics does the guide require teachers to cover around each work?\",\"answer\":\"It requires art-historical terms and concepts, cultural/social/technological/political factors, developments in materials and techniques, and how art has been used and interpreted by past and present societies.\"}]","GCE History of Art 2022 - Topic Guide C1 - Invention and illusion: the Renaissance in Italy (1420-1520) - A level | PDF",1792473122,55,{"code":4,"msg":82,"data":99},[100,104,108,111,116,120,125,130,135,138,142],{"id":22,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":101,"show_sort_weight":102,"slug":103},"Story & Novel",90,"story-novel",{"id":26,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":33,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":29,"show_sort_weight":109,"slug":110},70,"exam",{"id":112,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":113,"show_sort_weight":114,"slug":115},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":55,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":117,"show_sort_weight":118,"slug":119},"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":121,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":122,"show_sort_weight":123,"slug":124},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":126,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":127,"show_sort_weight":128,"slug":129},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":131,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":132,"show_sort_weight":133,"slug":134},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":133,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":136,"show_sort_weight":133,"slug":137},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":139,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":140,"show_sort_weight":139,"slug":141},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":143,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":25,"category_name":144,"show_sort_weight":112,"slug":145},19,"General","general"]
