of \nfairytales.I was inspired from my courseworkstudies in English Literature where we have \nbeen focusing on therole and presentation of women in Gothic Literature. The text that has \nespecallystrong feminist connotations is The BlodyChamber by Angela Carter;in which \nshe exploressexuality and gender roles through her adaptationso fairy tales in acollection of \nshort stories. In the introduction of The Bloody Chamber'Helen Simpson writes The Bloody \nChamberis like a multi-facetedgitering diamond relecting and refractingavarlety of \nportraits of desire and sexuality'which complements the undertones of traditional fairy tales \nintertwined with her own narative to creat acombination that sboth haunting and \npoignant Researching this further.Iread the origina wrings ofairy tales that have now \nbeen commercalised to producethe beloved hapily ever after Rather than falry ales being \nstories of true love andfulflment of dreams, they are rathertales of moraltypunishment \nthrough violent and sexual consequences.I am also going to expand this further by the muses \nof pre-Raphaelte painting such as The Lady ofshallot and ophela n the flowers as this \nintroduces another Gothc elemen aswellas focusingon how women areportrayed in \ntraditionaliterature.1 am golng to combine al ofthese lements into my photography exam \nprojecto produce distingulshes the relationship \nbetween fantasy and the female modelin heraward wining photography that distinguishes \nthe fantastical along with he tradiional connotationsof fairyales. The fantasy elementto her \nphotography is produced through her use of make-up and props as wellas white balance to \ncreate photographs hat couldhave been taken from another word. Her work is globally \nrecognised especaly in her home country of Rusia,s she travels across the globe in order to \ncapture the perfect setingforherphotography. The technique ofshoting n ousd locations \nalongside her photography caeer with the 2009 summer project Wondertand to \nald her in grieving th los ofher mother.Mitchell sates thisescapism grew into the concept \nofcreating an unexplained storybook
