It explains why gang affiliation and related behavior do not stop at school entry, and how unchecked activity can lead to intimidation, bullying, fighting, recruitment, and serious criminal incidents. It outlines how intelligence gathering and information-sharing protocols answer key questions about gang threats, and it lists common indicators used for identification and validation.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":35,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/gangs-in-schools-a-collaborative-approach-to-school-safety-guide/586522/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/gangs-in-schools-a-collaborative-approach-to-school-safety-guide/586522.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Quinn Holloway","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-16","2026-10-15",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":8},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"Why does gang involvement remain a school safety concern?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"Gang affiliation and related behaviors, attitudes, and conflicts persist when students come to school. Gang members do not leave their behaviors, attitudes, and conflicts outside the school environment. Gangs, unchecked and unidentified in a school setting, often engage in threat and intimidation; physical and cyber bullying; fighting; recruiting; and criminal activities such as the introduction and use of weapons, assault, sex trafficking, vandalism, and illegal drug sales. The absence of a well-developed, strategic, collaborative, and effective school safety plan can lead to violence and other unsafe and disruptive activities within a school setting. \nIt is not solely the responsibility of schools to create and maintain a safe learning environment, free from the disruption gangs can cause, for students, faculty, and staff. To develop a comprehensive plan that identifies effective, evidence-based strategies to address gang issues in the school environment requires the involvement of law enforcement, school administrators and staff, and other key sectors ofthe community. The OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model highlights such a holistic approach by coordinating the roles ofall agencies and organizations within a community that are responsible for addressing gang-related crime and violence. Schools are part of the larger community. \nGangs in Schools Bulletin \nTHREE-PRONGED RESPONSE \nThe best strategies are proactive rather than simply reactive. An effective response begins with the coordination of prevention, intervention, and suppression efforts guided by appropriate information sharing protocols. \nThis establishes shared responsibility for tackling gang-related problems in schools. \nPREVENTION \nGang prevention is based on early identification of occurrences and trends within the school and community and the provision of evidence-based services and activities designed to discourage a youth’s decision tojoin a gang. \nINTERVENTION \nGang intervention strategies focus on youth who exhibit some level of engagement in a gang and are provided with evidence-based services to facilitate gang disengagement. \nSUPPRESSION \nGang suppression strategies related to the school environment focus on proactive measures to mitigate many of the fa","cbCaijURSWgPsKXw","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijURSWgPsKXw","pdf",7175489,16,"English","# Impact to Schools\n## Three-Pronged Response\n### Prevention\n### Intervention\n### Suppression\n# What Does Gang Activity Look Like?","[{\"question\":\"Why does gang involvement remain a school safety concern?\",\"answer\":\"Gang affiliation and related behaviors, attitudes, and conflicts persist when students come to school.
