I am very grateful to him for his detailed suggestions – chapter by chapter – on how to improve the book by adding results, proofs, explanations and observations. Most chapters of this book have been expanded and modified along the lines suggested by Christian Bach. Details on the major changes introduced in the third edition are given in Chapter 1 . \nI also added a companion book, \nEXERCISES IN GAME THEORY – Volume 1: Basic Concepts, available at \n[https://www.amazon.com/EXERCISES-GAME-THEORY-Concepts-Textbooks/dp/B0D538MP7F](https://www.amazon.com/EXERCISES-GAME-THEORY-Concepts-Textbooks/dp/B0D538MP7F) \nthat contains an additional set of 180 fully solved exercises for Chapters 2-7 and a similar companion book for Chapters 8-15 is in preparation. \nThis book is suitable for both self-study and for an undergraduate course in Game Theory (probably based on the first 7-10 chapters) as well as (in its entirety) a first-year graduate-level class. It is written to be accessible to anybody with high-school knowledge of mathematics. The book is richly illustrated with 422 figures. At the end of each chapter there is a collection of exercises (a total of 193 exercises) accompanied by complete and detailed answers. \nPreface to the second edition, 2018 \nThis second edition introduces \n⋄ substantial reformatting (having translated into LATEX the previous file written in Microsoft Word), \n⋄ the addition of 15 new exercises (bringing the total to 180), \n⋄ improved exposition, with additional text and examples, and enhanced topics,⋄ the availability of a printed version of the book, split into two volumes (the first covering the basic concepts and the second dealing with advanced topics) . \nI am indebted to Elise Tidrick for the enormous amount of work she put into helping me with this new edition. Not only did she design the covers of the two volumes with original artwork, but she spent hours helping me translate the original file into LATEX code, taking care of reformatting the figures and nudging and instructing me on how to modify the LATEX output so as to ensure a smooth flow in the reading of the book. \nI would like to thank Dr. Chula Kooanantkul for pointing out several typos and Mathias Legrand for making the latex template used for this book available for free (the template was downloaded from [http://www.latextemplates.com/template/](http://www.latextemplates.com/template/)[ ](http://www.latextemplates.com/template/)[the-legrand-orange-book](the-legrand-orange-book)) . \nPreface to the first edition, 2015 \nAfter teaching game","cbCaiaMj4kHs13d2","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaMj4kHs13d2","pdf",4232922,634,"English","# Preface to the third edition, 2024\n## Motivation and major changes\n## Companion exercises and suitability\n# Preface to the second edition, 2018\n## Reformatting, added exercises, and improvements\n# Preface to the first edition, 2015\n## Rationale for an open textbook and intended level","[{\"question\":\"What motivated the third edition of the Game Theory book?\",\"answer\":\"The third edition was prepared in response to a long list of comments and suggestions, applied chapter by chapter to improve results, proofs, explanations, and observations.\"},{\"question\":\"How are the book volumes and companion exercises organized?\",\"answer\":\"The print version is split into two volumes: Volume 1 covers basic concepts and Volume 2 covers advanced topics.
