So far it had been a normal workday, though their job was far from normal. His crew was tired and cranky. Thankfully, he had good people. He was pushing fifty now, and had worked with  \nA.P.EX. for nearly twenty-five years. In that time, he had seen more than anyone could imagine.  \nHe didn’t know a lot about how the company worked, just that he got a call and location a week in advance. It was his job to have his crew there at sunrise of the given date. They walked into hell and made messes disappear. He knew others who did crime scene cleanup and had heard their horror stories, but to him that was tame, network TV carnage. What he saw would give even the most committed psychopath nightmares. David, however, hadn’t dreamed about his job in years. He wondered what that made him, but due to the obscene amount of money involved, he decided it mostly made him rich. That was enough. A handful of weekends a year was all it cost. It was a fair price to pay for a man who barely graduated highschool and had no other discernible skills. Did that mean he sold his soul? It did. But goddamn he got a hell of a deal.  \nDavid was a man currently short on his crew, with no real prospect in the pipeline. That meant everyone had to work a little harder and faster, but it was better than trying to work with a newbie puking, or going off to the corner to cry. When that happened, they usually ended up with another body to dispose of, and it still left them a man down. Body disposal was the primary function of the job, after all. And David was the best at his job.  \nIt was odd. When workdays began, everyone cracked jokes, usually gallows humor, which was necessary considering the job. By the middle of the day, things changed. Even the most hardened son of a bitch on the planet could only see so much blood and guts before their mind either shutdown or recoiled in terror. David found the secret was imagining the beach he’d be on in a couple days, and the little fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. He had made the decision to sell his soul, and there was no point in looking back now. He could never earn enough money to buy it back.  \nThe crew, now at the point of the day where they’d gone silent, entered the average-looking house in front of them. It was in an older neighborhood that was being flattened to put in a shopping center or some shit. It didn’t really matter. There were only three families left who hadn’t been bought out yet. David bet they wished they had taken the money and run.  \nThe area was far enough away from any major traffic that even though it was now around noon, no one had driven by or seen them. The only traffic these streets got were residents, and they were all dead now. The weird thing was, even after a quarter century of cleaning up after the rich and shameless, he still held his breath before entering a home.
