Today the short story has become a very powerful genre, thanks to the proliferation પ્ર વાય of popular magazines and journals and other media of mass communication. \nA short story is but a piece of life, presenting generally a human situation against a certain background. It has a central idea or core round which the writer weaves his plot. By the very limited nature of its scope and aim, he has to practise an economy of words or material. For the same reason, he does not have the novelist's freedom of movement for leisurely and elaborate development of character or plot. Obviously therefore, the short-story writer cannot hope to portray the whole of human life; he can concentrate only on one or two aspects which he seeks to highlight within the limited canvas available to him. \nLike all real artists, the story-writer also holds the mirror up to Nature in all its complexity and diversity. Nothing is too small or too big for the writer's pen but all is grist દ઱ણું to his mill. All that is expected of a good \nstory is that it should read well, hold the attention of the reader and have a satisfying feeling at the end. \nThe present collection contains some of the finest short stories in English written by American, English and Indian authors. \nO' Henry's 'The Robe of Peace', is a moving story in a decreptively casual style, about the transformation of a young American dandy રફટાઉ into a serene monk who has achieved peace. 'The Miracle of Puran Bhagat' is one of Rudyard Kipling's master-pieces which tells the story of an English-educated Dewan of a Princely State of North India, who renounces ત્માગ કયલો power and pelf ધન ુંવ઩ત્તિ to become a Bhagat and who saves a whole village from a Himalayan landslip before he himself breathes his last. 'The Truth about Pyecraft' by H.G. Wells is a diverting ફદરતું science fantasy about a fat Englishman who takes an oriental પૂલવનું concoction ફનાલટ to reduce his weight with disastrous consequences and how he meets the situation by acting on the ingenious suggestion of his friend. John Gaslworthy's 'Quality', is a heart-rending story of two German shoe-makers-two brothers who struggle to maintain the quality of their work in the face of mounting competition from the big manufacturers with their unethical and profit-oriented practices. In 'The Hammer of God', Chesterton's detective Father Brown solves the mystery of the death of a blas","cbCaidvAcJtb4If1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidvAcJtb4If1","pdf",3449225,231,"English","# Unit 1\n## Definition, Elements of short stories\n# Unit 2\n## Nature, Scope and Types of Short Stories\n# Unit 3\n## Short Stories 1 to 3 from the anthology\n# Unit 4\n## Short Stories 4 to 6 from the anthology\n# Unit 5\n## Short Stories 7 to 10 from the anthology\n# Semester End exam\n## Long Answer Questions\n## Short Notes Questions","[{\"question\":\"What are the main elements of short stories covered in Unit 1?\",\"answer\":\"Unit 1 covers character, setting, plot, conflict, and theme.\"},{\"question\":\"Which anthology short stories are prescribed for study?\",\"answer\":\"The document lists 10 stories: “The Robe of Peace”, “The Miracle of Puran Bhagat”, “The Truth about Pyecraft”, “Quality”, “Mabel”, “The Hammer of God”, “A Cup of Tea”, “The Far and the Near”, “Half-a-Rupee Worth”, and “Bachcha Lieutenant”.\"},{\"question\":\"How is the Semester End exam structured for this course?\",\"answer\":\"The exam includes multiple long-answer questions for form and for short stories, plus short-notes questions, each with specified marks breakdown.\"}]","FYBA Semester 1 Core Course in English (CCE - 1) - Literary Form: Short Story | PDF",1789940567,582]
