FYBA,MIASF,and the BrowardAlliance and done by Thomas J.Murray &Associates,the mega-yacht industry has amulti-million dollar impact on South Florida,with the \"Tri-county region\"of SouthFlorida remaining in the forefront of the worldwide growth in yachts in excess ofeighty feet.An estimated 1,500 mega yachts were present in Tri-County watersduring 2006 compared to 800 in 1997.The Tri-County region represents one of theworld's two most significant clusters of professional services and talents necessary forthe world’s growing mega yacht sector.Specifically of relevance to the Tri-countyarea is the increasing size of mega yachts under construction.As a whole,the numberof mega yachts has increased 53%in terms of new construction over the past fiveyears and expanded nearly three-fold over the past decade.  \nThe Tri-County area also has a significant impact on the Charter Industry.Of the176 charter brokers listed worldwide in the“Charter Data Bank International,Inc.”(CDBI),62 of the companies are located in the Tri-County region,or about 35%ofthe number of CDBI registered charter companies worldwide.At the beginning of2007,Tri-County firms offered 176 mega yachts for charter-45%of the 383 megayachts listed for charter worldwide in the CDBI data.Another indicator of region'simpact on the charter industry is the membership of the largest trade organizationrepresenting charter brokers in the U.S.,the “Charter Yacht Brokers Association”(CYBA),which is based in Fort Lauderdale.CYBA membership includes 87member companies involved in yacht
