Face\"is a verystrange name for a car.And indeed,it is not very common asa name for anything. But let me tell you the story aboutFunny Face, for she was indeed a very ordinary car-exceptfor her looks. And that’s how she got her name. \nAt first,Funny Face did not have a name.At first, when she was new,she was just a beautiful blue stationwagon that belonged to the Boscow family. And at first, shewas a very proud automobile. The Boscows were very proudtoo, and they each agreed that she was just the car for them.Mr.Boscow liked the car because it had a good engine.Thesalesman told him it had eight cylinders.Mrs.Boscow likedthe car because it looked very pretty with its blue and yellowupholstery and blue body paint. \nJaney Boscow liked the car because of the big \n\"backyard.\"For that is what she called the back part of thestation wagon. And yes,the inside of this big car must havelooked as big as a backyard to little Janey. But Josh Boscowliked the car most of all.He liked the friendly look on thefront. Her gleaming headlights, grill and front bumperlooked to Jerry like a big wide smile. And Josh liked the soft \nmotorry purr which the car had when they rode down thestreet. \nOn Saturday,Josh and his Dad would polish the carand check the oil and water to make sure there was justenough.Josh knew where to pour the oil and water if itneeded more.He also knew it was important to take goodcare of the car.And since the Boscows took good care of thecar, the car was every bit as good to the Boscows. She tookthem everywhere. When Dad drove her to work in themornings, she purred along smoothly. And she knew shelooked very grand parked under the big office building whereMr.Boscow worked. When she took Josh and his friends tosoccer games, she felt very important. But she felt grandest ofall when she took Mother to lunch.Mother would be dressedin her best and both she and the car would look very fineindeed. \nOf course, there were times when the car did not wantto go where the Boscows wanted her to go.She was \nespecially upset when Dad loaded her up with trash to take tothe city dump. This type of errand usually caused her tosputter and miss on at least one cylinder part of the time.Shewasn't a truck, after all.She was a beautiful shiny bluestation wagon. And shiny blue station wagons did not go tothe dump. However, most of the time, she ran very well. \nI suppose this car was just like some people, for shesometimes got to thinking how beautiful and grand she must \nlook going down the street and she didn't always pay \nattention to where she was going. And that proved to be verybad for her.Because, one day she was headed down GardenStreet, taking Mother to lunch, looking very grand and notpaying the least bit attention where she was going. All of asudden, she noticed she was headed toward a guard rail onher right side.Although she swerved quickly, and slammedon the brakes very hard, she found she couldn't stop fastenough. There was a loud crash and the first thing thebeautiful blue car knew, she could only see out of one eye.But worst of a","cbCailEhsUSJegL9","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailEhsUSJegL9","pdf",2454662,44,"English","# Chapter One -
