It shows real student responses to these questions, and how the examining team follow the mark schemes to demonstrate how the students would be awarded marks on these questions. \nHow to use this booklet \nOur examining team have selected a student on the pass mark. Following each question, you will find the mark scheme for that question and then the student response with accompanying examiner comments on how the mark scheme has been applied and the marks awarded, and on common errors for this sort of question. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n1. 3 marks \nA fractional increase question. The learner finds 1/3 of 18 and adds this on accurately. All the marks can be awarded. Learners should be encouraged to calculate with fractions and not try to convert toa decimal equivalent. This often leads to 1/3=0 .3 and then an incorrect answer. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n2. 2 marks \nThe substitution is correct. The only error here is the inability to divide 540 by 5 accurately. An answer of 18 is given. This cannot be right, if we have more than 500 to begin with, we know when we divide by 5 the answer should be greater than 100. Learners should sense check answers to calculations as they go. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n3. 0 marks \nInstead of adding the distances this learner tries to subtract but at no point do they engage with converting the fraction to a common denominator. Hence no marks can be awarded. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 2 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n4a. 0 marks \nThere is no clear method shown and the answer although not totally clear is not 0.25 No marks can be awarded. \n4b. 1 mark \n27 is given instead of 127, in this case a little more care/concentration may have led to the correct answer. This is probably an arithmetic error. \n4c. 1 mark \nThe leaner correctly selects and uses 8. However, they should have used 46 not 88. Sojust one mark can be given.","cbCaisWunRTeLsSH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisWunRTeLsSH","pdf",2370117,37,"English","# About this booklet\n# How to use this booklet\n# Examiner comments\n## Question 1\n## Question 2\n## Question 3\n## Question 4a\n## Question 4b\n## Question 4c","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this booklet for Functional Skills Maths Level 2?\",\"answer\":\"It supports mathematics teachers delivering the new Functional Skills Mathematics specification and explains how student work from Retired Set 6 should be marked using the mark scheme.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the booklet present marking decisions for each question?\",\"answer\":\"After each question, it provides the mark scheme, the student response, and examiner comments explaining how the mark scheme was applied and why marks were awarded or withheld.\"},{\"question\":\"What common mistakes are highlighted in the examiner comments?\",\"answer\":\"Examples include converting fractions to incorrect decimal equivalents (e.g., 1/3), making calculation errors such as dividing inaccurately, using subtraction instead of addition when working with converted fractions, and selecting the wrong numbers during method steps.\"}]","Functional Skills Maths - Level 2 Exemplar Set 6 - Learner 1 | PDF",1792464755,93]
