Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExemplar Student answers with examiner comments \nAbout this booklet \nThis booklet has been produced to support mathematics teachers delivering the new Functional Skills Mathematics specification (first assessment summer 2019) . \nThe booklet looks at questions from the Retired Set 6 which is available on the web as a practice paper. It shows real student responses to these questions, and how the examining team follow the mark schemes to demonstrate how the students would be awarded marks on these questions. \nHow to use this booklet \nOur examining team have selected a student on the pass mark. Following each question, you will find the mark scheme for that question and then the student response with accompanying examiner comments on how the mark scheme has been applied and the marks awarded, and on common errors for this sort of question. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n1. 1 mark. \nThis learner works out the number of toys made in a 6-hour day. 1 mark \nNo attempt is made to work with the 5% and so no more marks can be awarded. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n2a) The correct answer is seen. 1 mark \n2b) The correct answer is seen. 1 mark \n2c) The number is not rounded correctly to 1 decimal place. This has been rounded to the nearest whole number. 0 marks \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n3a) 1 mark \nThis is an example of BODMAS/BIDMAS \nThe learner begins correctly either 17-3 =14 or 4 squared is 16 is enough for the first mark. \nThe second method mark is for a complete process and this leaner does not carry out the process in the correct order. \nThe 14 must be divided by 2 before the 26 can be added on. \n3b) 0 mark \nThis is a checking mark. \n14 + 3 = 17 is one example that would score the mark. \nNote a reverse calculation is required. \nThe answer must be given and must be accurate. e.g. 14 + 3 = 16 would NOT score the mark, neither would 14 + 3 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1 \nExaminer comments \n4) 4 marks \nA compound area is required. \nThis learner shows the formula for the area of a rectangle, this is not required but it is helpful. \n9 x 5 is enough for the first mark, one relevant area found. (Mark B on the scheme) . \nThe first mark is implied by the correct use of 2, a missing length is found and used without the calculation being shown. \nThe full process is seen at the point of 45 + 6. \nAccuracy is awarded for 51. \nFunctional Skills Maths | Level 1 Exemplar | Set 6 | Learner 1","cbCaissccHgGaQyO","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaissccHgGaQyO","pdf",1983538,31,"English","# About this booklet\n# How to use this booklet\n# Examiner comments\n## Question 1\n## Question 2a-2c\n## Question 3a-3b\n## Question 4","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this Functional Skills Maths Level 1 Exemplar booklet?\",\"answer\":\"It supports mathematics teachers delivering the Functional Skills Mathematics specification for the first assessment in summer 2019 and explains how examiners apply mark schemes to student work.\"},{\"question\":\"How are the questions and student answers presented?\",\"answer\":\"Questions come from the Retired Set 6 practice paper, followed by the relevant mark scheme, the student response, and examiner comments on how marks were awarded.\"},{\"question\":\"What types of common errors are highlighted in the examiner comments?\",\"answer\":\"The comments cover issues such as not using the correct precision or rounding (e.g., to 1 decimal place), incorrect order of operations in BODMAS/BIDMAS, missing required steps for reverse checking, and failing to follow accuracy requirements for compound areas.\"}]","Functional Skills Maths - Level 1 Exemplar - Set 6 - Learner 1 | PDF",1792464736,78]
