As I said there, my writing turned toward new audiences around 2012, shifting from a focus on scientists and other professionals within food systems to non-specialists interested in the production, processing, distribution, and consumption of food. Other philosophers were a prominent part of my new audience, and the earlier book was written with an eye to the possibility that they would use it for their teaching. The earlier book received the North American Society for Social Philosophy’s (NASSP) Book of the Year Award for 2015. That award encouraged me to follow up with this sequel, and I would like to thank the NASSP for their recognition of my work. Perhaps more than anything, the appreciation I received from this group of philosophers validated my turn toward a philosophical readership.  \nThis book is not simply a continuation of From Field to Fork, however. That book adopted an introductory and pedagogical standpoint in a specific sense. I was communicating what I had learned from three decades of interaction with scientifically trained food system specialists to readers with an interest in food ethics but with little familiarity with the received views of food system experts.
