Asthe complexity of today’s avionics systems have grown, it has become much more difficult to conduct effective technical training since many of the older methods of using hand-drawn instructional materials have many limitations. In order to obtain a more thorough understanding of how visualization methods have progressed, their efficacy, and their contextual usage within aviation education, an extensive systematic review of thirty-eight articles published between 1994 and 2025 was conducted. The review follows the PRISMA guidelines to evaluate both the use of hand drawings, digital tools (such as VR/AR and digital twin), and hybrid learning methods. Digital visualization provides a useful way to create knowledge, improve spatial orientation and decrease mistakes while performing maintenance tasks. It is also helpful in pilot and technician training because it helps people make decisions about processes and procedures. While digital visualization is becoming more common in hybrid models of electronic training programs, hand-drawn sketches are still an important part of teaching aerospace engineering because they allow for increased creativity, conceptualization, and fast sharing of ideas. The study also demonstrates how effective visualizations may vary based on the situation; therefore, equal weight should be given to teacher’s intent and learners’ needs along with the resources that are available to create visualizations. \nCitation Style: \nCastillo, E. INTRODUCTION \nTraditionally, hand drawing and manual sketching were used in aviation education as learning methodologies for developing students’ and practitioners’ spatial visualization, technical communication, and design skills. Manual sketching has been an integral part of traditional aerospace engineering curricula and has typically been emphasized as a method of encouraging creativity and expediting the transmittance of ideas from one individual to another (Maughmer & Schmidt, 2007; Hilton et al., 2016; Ropp et al., 2012) . For the last 30 years, however, there has been an enormous movement away from traditional methods and on to digital visualization technologies such as CAD, VR, AR, digital twin platforms, and immersive simulation environments (Gonzalo, 2024; Ziakkas et al., 2023a; Meister et al., 2022).
