The Modern State of Health and Fitness \n● Evidence based practices: the focus on scientific principles, methodologies, and current best evidence when making decisions about client care will help fitness professionals reach their highest level of success. \n● NASM’s OPT Model is an evidence based practice and guiding approach to exercise training. \n● Defining Health and Disease within the Global State of Health \n○ Acute disease: sudden medical condition that can be treated and healed in a short amount of time. \n○ Chronic disease: a persistent medical condition that endures without going away or being cured altogether. \n○ Overweight and Obesity: terms that refer to a body weight that is greater than what is considered normal for a person height in regard to excess body fat. \n○ Cardiovascular disease: term defining problems of the heart and blood vessels including heart attacks, heart valve problems, strokes, and arrhythmia. \n○ Hypertension: consistently elevated blood pressure. A primary risk factor for heart disease and stroke (a primary cause of death according to the World Health Organization) . \n○ Diabetes: a chronic metabolic disorder that impairs the body to properly metabolize carbohydrates (glucose) . \n○ Cancer: an abnormal growth of cells that are caused by a range of genetic and environmental influences. \n○ Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) : lung disease distinguished by breathlessness, problems with airflow, and an increased decline of lung capabilities. \n● Increased and consistent physical movement have been shown to improve muscular and skeletal dysfunctions and diseases. Sedentary lifestyles and easy diets continue to increase rates of obesity and chronic disease. \n● CPTs must work within their scope of practice and adhere to local laws and regulations. \n● National Academy of Sports Medicine Code of Professional Conduct: \n○ Professionalism should be practiced during all client interactions. Use effective communication and ensure a safe environment. Maintain good hygiene and wear \nappropriate clothing. Always refer your clients to a doctor when unknown conditions arise. \n○ Confidentiality: secure client documents and respect the confidentiality of your client conversations. \n○ Legal and Ethical: obey all laws associated with your training location. Keep truthful records and take responsibility for their accuracy. \n○ Business Practice: keep adequate liability insurance and practice truth in appropriate advertising. Maintain accurate financial and client records to pay all due taxes for 4 years. Don't get sexually involved with your clients. \nNASM does not recommend knowing any of the material from Chapter 1 , but does ask about 3 questions from the chapter. \nCHAPTER 2. The Personal Training Profession \n● Employment opportunities: from working in a large gym or training your own clients, CPTs have options to practice with clients. \n● As an independent contractor a CPT must establish their own rate and make the entire commission. Operational expenses, insurance, and taxes are all expensive that must betaken into account. \n● Customer service, selling your personal training services, and rapport are ways to get a prospective client to commit to an exercise program. \n● Providing uncompromising customer service: personal trainers must never think of a \nclient as an interruption. Some clients have many questions and might ask them in inconvenient times but you never want to give a bad impression. They are a priority and are the reason an entire business was built. Be sure that you build a good impression on the professional relationship being created. Vocal tone, verbal communication and even body language are key factors in this. Presenting yourself in the correct manner will give them the personal trainer they want to have. If for any reason they might have a complain","cbCaigBOgkTJ0Oml","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigBOgkTJ0Oml","pdf",1210462,"English","# SECTION 1—Professional Development and Responsibility\n## CHAPTER 1.
