Players roll a dice, identify the fraction property required on the board, and attempt to grab an uncovered shape that matches. The rules cover turn-taking, accuracy, and how fractions of shapes relate to benchmarks like halves, quarters, thirds, sixths, and eighths. Players win by placing the most counters or by using included variation strategies.",{"@graph":14,"@context":72},[15,34,55],{"@type":16
BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31
@type":21
https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1
@type":21
https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2
@type":21
https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3
@type":21
https://docshare.wps.com/document/fraction-grabber-v1-game-instructions-fraction-matching/635988/",4
@type":35
"DigitalDocument
@type":38
https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/fraction-grabber-v1-game-instructions-fraction-matching/635988.png","ImageObject",300,407
@type":43},"Dipper","Person
@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-01","2026-10-22",true,{"@type":52
InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",{"@type":56
FAQPage",[58,64,68
@type":60
How does a player take a turn in Fraction Grabber v1?","Question
@type":63},"Player 1 rolls the dice and checks the board to find the shape property required. The fractions shown are all fractions of shapes and concepts such as equivalence to a half are explored.
Level of difficulty: ❶
Number of players: 2-3
Learning: fractions of shapes, vocabulary: equivalent to, thirds, quarters, sixths, eighths You will need:
- 1 dice
- Each player will need about 12 counters of their own color.
Instructions
- Player 1 rolls the dice and looks at the table on the Fraction Grabber board to tell them what shape property to find.
- Player 1 must place a counter on a shape which matches the property they need. This is called a Fraction Grab!
- If Player 1 is unable to match a fraction, or makes a mistake with their fraction, then they do not place a counter.
- Player 2 (and any other players) repeat this.
- Players can only grab a fraction which does not already have a counter on.
- Players can only grab one shape each turn!
- The winner is the player who has placed the most counters when all the shapes have been grabbed (covered up) .
Example:
Player 1 rolls a 1 and covers up the first square on the second row.
Player 2 rolls a 2 and covers up the first square in the bottom row, as it is equivalent to a half.
Variations
- Alternative playing strategy:
o Each player is able to place their own counter on any shape, even if another player has already placed a counter on it. The winner is the first player to place all
12 counters on different shapes.
- Alternative winning strategy:
o The winner is the first player to get three counters placed in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
FRACTION GRABBER v1
CAN YOU GRAB A SHAPE WHICH …?

| 1
has not been split into equal size parts. | 2
has been
exactly ½
shaded. | 3 is more than ½ shaded. | 4
is less than
½ shaded. | 5
has been split into quarters or eighths. | 6
has been split into thirds or sixths. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |","cbCaisI9oUs3kLs1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaisI9oUs3kLs1","pdf",199288,"English","# Instructions
## Variations
## Example
# Fraction Property Cards","[{"question":"How does a player take a turn in Fraction Grabber v1?","answer":"Player 1 rolls the dice and checks the board to find the shape property required.
