GoodSamaritan Hospital(West Palm Beach,Fla.)for capitalprojects;$299,000 to Roosevelt Hospital(N.Y.)forcapital and other projects;and $40,000 to the Woman'sHospital Division of St.Luke's Hospital(N.Y.)forcapital needs.  \nThe Educational Trust of the American Hospital Asso-ciation is undertaking an 18-month study of the futureneeds for hospital facilities in the United States under agrant of $60,000 from the W.K.Kellogg Foundationand approximately $149,000 from the U.S.PublicHealth Service.After reappraising the steps taken in thelast decade to provide health services and examiningpresent criteria for the development of hospitals,it willendeavor to establish an improved base line for the na-tion's hospital planning with a view to minimizing dupli-cation,waste,and inefficiency.  \nTo the Homestead Hospital(Pa.)building fund,theUnited States Steel Foundation announces that it willmake a gift of $500,000 provided the total campaigngoal of $1.5 million is achieved.  \nA Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities,Inc.has been formed to conduct medical statistical serv-ice to aid hospitals to analyze their medical records.Tosupport the program for three years,after which it isexpected that the service may be on a self-sustainingbasis,the same Foundation has given $260,000.  \nTo cover approximately one-third of the cost of theestablishment of a radiation center at St.Raphael Hos-pital (New Haven,Conn.),the New Haven Foundationhas granted $75,000 from the Gates Fund and expectsto give $50,000 more in the next two years.Additionalgrants to hospitals from the same Fund have been$130,000 to Grace New Haven Community Hospital forthe renovation of its emergency service and surgicalclinic;and nearly $60,000 over the past four years to theGriffin Hospital(Derby,Conn.)for X-Ray equipmentand other major capital improvements.  \nAnother grant by this Foundation,its first project belowthe equator,is a five-year commitment of approximately$125,116 to the New South Wales University of Tech-nology for the establishment in Australia of a graduateprogram in education for hospital administration.Thecourse will require two full years of study at the graduatelevel,with the student's second year being spent as anintern in a university teaching hospital.A supplementarygrant of approximately $5,000 will make available for atime one of the outstanding educators in hospital admin-istration of the United States.  \nLargest grant of the James Foundation in this field wasthat of $300,000 which it authorized for the new build-ing of the New York Foundling Hospital.Other grants bythis Foundation for capital needs were $50,000 toChurch Charity Foundation for application toward thecost of an addition to the Nurses'Residence at St.John'sEpiscopal Hospital(Brooklyn,N.Y.)and a like amountto Mt.Sinai Hospital(N.Y.)to be applied to cost ofrelocating,reconstructing,and re-equiping the radio-therapy department.And for hospitals
