The opening chapter tracks her tense, detail-driven inspection and the way time and renovation are expected to erase a violent incident. It introduces the house as both beautiful and haunted, setting a psychological tone of secrecy, guilt, and calculated reinvention.","FOR( E ) CLOSURE \nJude Nichols \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nCopyright © 2025 Judith Nichols \nAll rights reserved \nThe characters and events portrayed in this book are fictitious. The house as exquisite as it was, was a tough sell even for her, Santa Rosa’s top Realtor four years running. But Carly had never shied away from a challenge. Her heels clicked loud against the peachy terracotta entryway floor as she stepped into the house. The door shut itself behind her, but she was already too engrossed in her mental checklist to notice. \nReplace entryway tiles. Marble. No…slate. Marble. Yes, you can never go wrong with marble. \nThe entryway bled into the formal dining room; odd choice in Carly’s book. She did a rapid-fire calculation of the cost of re-configuring the room . Houses could be very much like Rubik’s cubes. The rooms akinto those tricky little colorful blocks. Proper alignment was everything. One misplaced block and the whole thing’s wrong. She’d have to talk to Charlie, her contractor, about this one . \nDining room placement, put a pin in it. \nCarly clicked on through the remainder of the dining room, gathering and lifting her blonde hair off her shoulders to give her neck some momentary relief. The house was stifling and stale, having been shuttered and shutdown for months. There is a certain feel to unloved homes, even beautiful ones; a sterile stagnation that can’t be missed. This house was a whisper away from foreclosure and it knew it in its bones. \nCarly peeked her head into the first-floor powder room . It was in good shape. Pretty, pale blue and white flecked hexagonal tile lined the floor. A tasteful, white pedestal sink stood below a surprising but elegant pendant light. Well done. No notes. A rarity. \nDon’t touch first floor powder room . Perfection. \nShe walked down a narrow, unadorned hallway. Her mind was toggling through paint colors when she reached the end of the hall. Her heels stopped their clickety, clicking. She’d reached the back of the house. The kitchen. The place where it had happened. She lingered in the doorway. Carly was not a religious woman by any means, but she found herself performing the sign of the cross over her chest before entering; an act she had not done since childhood. And this was only on the rare Sunday morning that she allowed her friend Rosa’s mother to drag her along with their family to the church down the street after she’d slept over at their apartment. \nAs Carly walked gingerly round the spacious, lovely kitchen she tried her best to push her thoughts into the future rather than the past. She’d need to cast a wide net with this house. Push the borders of her marketing. Reach for out-of-towners. The remodel was good. It’d give a little more breathing room from the incident. Time can do wonders. Help people forget. Yes, she’d really need to work her magic on this one . It would need to be flawless. But above all else she’d need to focus on this remodel. \nSprinkle pixie dust all over this place with exquisite, spot-on finishes and flooring. And she would.
