\nBALIKPULAU:Forthe first timeinSJK(C)Sin Min's history,no Chi-nese pupil has enrolled in YearOne for the new academic year.  \nFor the 2025/2026 session,theschool welcomed nine Malaypupils—five boys and four girls.  \nThey are from Sungai Pinang,Pantai Acheh,Sungai Rusa andJalan Baru.  \nOf the nine pupils,one had nobackground in Chinese educa-tion.  \nThe school in Sungai Pinanghere turns 105years old this year.Its board of directors chairman,Wong Soon Theam,said over theyears,many young Chinese peo-ple had left Sungai Pinang insearch of abetter life.  \n\"In 2017,only one Chinese girlenrolled in Year One.  \n\"This year,we had none at all.We received nine Malay pupils.This is a first in the school's his-tory,\"he told the New StraitsTimes at the school yesterday.  \nSJK(C)Sin Min currently has 50pupils from Year One to Year Sixand 11 teachers,including head-mistress Voon Bee Leong.  \nFactory operator Norhafiza Ab-dul Wahab,42,enrolled herdaughter,Nur Auliya DarwisyahMohd Amirruddin,in Year One,joining her brother,MuhamadAkif Darwisy Mohd Amirruddin,  \n12,who is in Year Six.  \n\"I decided to send both my chil-dren to this school so that theycan pick up another language.  \n\"My relative's child who stud-ied at aChinese schoolgot ajobinhuman resources after complet-ing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysiabecause of the fluency in Man-darin.”  \nNorhafiza said with low stu-dent enrolment,teachers couldpay full attention to the pupils.  \n\"Besides the dedicated teach-ers,the facilities at this school arealso good.  \n\"The teachers strive to guidetheir pupils to achieve their best.  \n\"Since Akif began studyinghere,he has become more dis-ciplined,more independent,more outspoken and more con-siderate,especially towards hiselders.”  \nNorhafiza,who sends her chil-dren for extra classes,said shepicked up some Mandarin fromherchildren.  \nShe said Akif attends Kafa re-ligious classes after school fromMondays through Thursdays.  \nAuliya said she had alwayswanted to study at the school.  \n\"I have many friends here andthe teachers are very friendly.  \n\"I also have my brother here.Iam so happy.”  \nWong said the school held ac-tivities and extra classes to helpthe pupils.  \nHe said the school also provid-ed breakfast for those who reg-istered for the programme.  \nOf the school's 46 pupils lastyear,28 of them were from B40families.  \nThe
