19, 2011  \nPress Release: First All India Bar Exam Results Declared  \nIn furtherance of the successful conduct of the first All India Bar Examination (“AIBE”) held on March 6, 2011, the Bar Council of India today declared the results of the AIBE, in advance of its March 20, 2011 deadline.  \nThe results of the first AIBE can be accessed online through the BCI website ([www.barcouncilofindia.org](www.barcouncilofindia.org)) and candidates can find out their individual result by typing in their Roll No. for the AIBE. State Bar Councils across the country are also being sent a list of the results of the candidates who took the AIBE in their state.  \nSpeaking about the results, Mr. Gopal Subramanium, Chairman, Bar Council of India and Solicitor General of India said,“The pass percentage for the first AIBEis just above 71% . The pass percentage amongst male and female candidates is nearly the same and I wish each and every passing candidate all the very best for their legal career ahead. Candidates who were unable to pass the AIBE should not lose heart as they will be allowed to take the next AIBE (details of which will be provided shortly) and I encourage them to study hard and take this up as a challenge. I also urge the lawyers in Chennai who were unable to take the AIBE not to worry; the AIBE will be held in Chennai before the end of this month.”  \nThe BCI is putting together a plan for conducting the AIBE in Chennai and announced that details of the same would be made available very shortly. More than 22,000 lawyers had enrolled for the AIBE and the AIBE was to be conducted on March 6, 2011 across 27 cities and 44 different test venues. Barring an incident in Chennai on March 6, 2011, the AIBE was conducted successfully in 26 cities across India. In Chennai, the AIBE had to be postponed after certain unsavoury elements resorted to protests and sporadic violence to destabilize the examination.  \nThe Chairman added that “The AIBE is a historic landmark for the legal profession in India and the high attendance and international standard processes and systems have built a useful benchmark for the way forward. However, it is only a first step; the results of the first AIBE clearly prove that there are various systemic problems with legal education etc. that need to be addressed quickly so that law students and legal professionals have access to the skills and knowledge that will allow them to build successful modern legal practices and take forward the future of the Indian legal profession.
