Alas, it did not make the cut but did find its way into a different story collection. Once I had the rights back, I thought that the premise was a good one to explore, and the short story was expanded to a novella, and sat for years before being reworked to be included in an anthology for a signing event. But as I was extending the now-not-so-short story, I realised I was potentially missing something, and the wider world of the Inventors’ Guild called to me   and so here is the novel-length version of Finishing Touches. Only took me fifteen years!  \nWelcome to the Inventors’ Guild, a morally-grey elite club, set in a steampunk alternate reality of Victorian London.
