It emphasizes that people become what they think about themselves, and asks readers to consider their own beliefs. The material explains how positive thinking supports coping with problems, planning the future, and building relationships, while negative thoughts and what others say can harm self-concept. It also highlights practical steps to improve self-confidence and confidence development through focused thinking and effort, followed by understanding-check questions.","Finding Myself \nPLP Grade 6 English \nFinding Myself \nPLP Grade 6 English Zambia \nCopyright © 2016, K.Jinaina, T.Olang, M.Githui \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes. We are all born differently and can do things differently. We all differ in the way we think about iurselves. Some people think about themselves as grasshoppers , too small to make a differnce and progress in life. Other people see giants out of themselves, people who will be different from others, rich and successful. The question we ought to ask ourselves is, \"What do i think about myself?\" \nThinking about yourself in a positive way can help you to live better even when there are problems in life. If you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to be able to deal with difficult situations, have a good plan for your future and get on well with others. \nYour self-concept is affected by the people aroubd you. These are the people you play with, talk to and spend time with. Self concept is also affected by people who support you, by what you do,by your negative thoughts and things you go through in life. Another thing that can change the way you think about yourself and harm yourselfconcept is what people say about you. If you make negativce statements about yourself or put yourself down, it results in a negative self-concept too. \nThere are many things you can do to improve your self-confidence.You can train yourself to stop thinking negative thoughts and to be proud of what you have achieved. If you focus on the postive parts of yourself, this will help you to build a positive selfconcept. We all have the potential to achieve what we want even when things are hard around us. This potential can be explored. It is up to you to work hard and develop it. \nCheck Your Understanding \n1.
